it's almost like the ship was designed to survive

I can see the arguments for it, I suppose, but I've never had a problem killing even CAU8 salvagers. They usually just bot up once and then have no regens. Then again, I pirate with a bomber 9/10 times, so...maybe against transports the Salvager has more of a chance. Dunno, really.

If you really want to chainge the Sally and want her to be easier to kill:
Then change her properly.
Only nerfing bots is childish.

Make her 20% smaller, give her GB agility and only ~ 2000 cargo
But then give her 20% more core and another Turret slot, too.

And then come and get her ;-)

Sally is a scrapping vehicle, and only in her second function a cargo vessle.
She IS no Gunboat, and she IS no transport.


SRY, no expertise with the Raba so far.

You plonk, I have the least bias opinion when it comes to this. I probably fly a Salvager more often than you do.

The fact that transports have any survivability makes no sense and discourages group flying.

Flying a salvager:

-You give up 1650 cargo compared to a 5k transprot
-You can no longer fly through Kusari (Junker only)
-You've got a ship as big as a cruiser, but with the hitpoints and shield strength of a transport
-You've only got 7 turrets, and they have fairly poor arcs
-You pay twice as much for the ship compared to the BWT

In exchange you get fair survivability through a large supply of nanobots/shield batteries, access to gunboat turrets (though limited to a light 400k powercore, despite being larger than heavy gunboats).

Everything is give and take, stop complaining just because you said "20milordai" and the mark got away.

Junkers cant use 5k'ers last i checked. has it been changed?

why cant you fly through kusari?

salvager is small. and has a good profile.

the 7 turrets are gunboat turrets.

you pay the price of a battletransport, but have higher survivability. and mining bonus. and gunboat core and guns.

Salvager is a ridiculously good ship, easily my favorite transport (and the transport i spent the most time in). it still would be with 400-500 nanos.

Exactly. Compare the salvager to some of the heavier transports; It gets all the advantages and none of the disadvantages.

But I have an immense load of regens as well as gunboat turrets that seriously buff up my survivability more than it should be.

Lets be honest, they're not that poor. I've killed a few things in my Salvager.

The price of the ship is irrelevant in this argument.

The regens are not the defining factor of what gives it fair survivability. They're the defining factor of what gives it near invincibility. The survivability should only come from it's armour, as well as it's gunboat turrets.

You give up only 250 cargo in comparison to BWT/Serenity, Junkers can't use 5kers and there isn't a smuggling group that can use 5kers to smuggle cardie from outcasts last time I checked (unless you do some cheeky rephacking but ain't nobody got time for that). Besides, 3350 cargo is enough to have a cap5 and be a valid transport ship.

The difference with aiming a SNAC at a Serenity and a Salvager is very minor, same is the possibility with hitting it with a Nova. So the size doesn't matter in this case, but you all people talk about it like it was the most important thing of all times.

Also it's very flat making it compensate for its size.

So to summarize, the Salvager is literally the thing that shouldn't exist within Discovery because it is too good solo. You don't need other people to mine, because your cargo hold is enough. You don't need escorts because you can mount a cap8 on it and still be a viable transport ship, you can also mount gunboat turrets. And on top of that, it's mostly used by Junkers - the ID that most players use for powertrading because their diplomacy is so good that with their cap8 salvagers they can easily run to the nearest lawful base, laugh at you, then undock and be free to go because they're transports and 3.4.

Soloing a CAU8 Salvager that's thrusting towards a docking location while turretsteering competently and firing at you simultaneously - while you're in a bomber - has to be one hell of a feat.

I mean, a UAU8 Stork can comfortably thrust 40k in a straight line purely on regens and hull against a lone heavy bomber. And I think we can agree the Salvager with far more hull, far more regens and far more threatening firepower would be at least twice as survivable. That's at least 80k to thrust to reach a docking point.

Unless you're catching Salvagers literally in the middle of nowhere, there's no way in hell you've soloed CAU8 ones in a bomber.

Based on some simple maths, a Salvager can bot up about 90% of its hull twice, by the way. Not just once.
