Hi !
Considering that The Elder Scrolls is very known and discussed around here, I was curious to see if anyone has played the old RPG series - Gothic.
It's an old and not very known game but one of the best RPGs out there, at least in my opinion.

PS: I know that there are a few of my friends who have played it but I would like to know if there are others.

If you have played it, what did you like the most ?

Yes. Right here. I absolutely adore these games. (not counting ArcaniA).
I consider Gothic I an II to be the best, however the third one stole A LOT more time from me. It's just so addicting for whatever reason. And god damn hard on the hardest difficulty.

Favorite camp in Gothic I - The New Camp
In the second one - Omar's Mercenaries
Third - The Orc Slayers of Nordmar.

What can I say, I'm always siding with Lee and his cool armors.

Intrigues to hear what stuff other people like to play as. Will stalk this thread a bit. (sun)

The series is a bit too plagued with bugs for my tastes. What I recall from Gothic 3 is mainly just a mess. Dumb combat with permanent ministunning. You hit first -> you stun them continuously -> you win. And vice versa, if the boar or whatever hits you first, you get stuck in a loop of stuns. Not very fun either way.

I have fond memories of Gothic 1, though.

Haste, that's what the Enhanced Version's for. There's a lot of patches for it that make it a lot more enjoyable. In this version, played on Hard at least, you won't get away with the usual click click click tactic. And you will need to be higher than level 60 or so to even Liberate a city, when in the first version you just needed to charge in and spin with a Halberd in hand at level 3 or 4 and you won.

Freedom Phantom:
Yes, Gothic 3 Enhanced Edition takes a lot of time compared to G1 & G2. Smile
Also, I agree with you, G4 - Arcania it's a huge failure if you compare it to the other 3 games.
My favorite camp in Gothic 1 was the "sect loonies" and on the 2nd place the New Camp. Smile
In Gothic 2, I played a lot as a mage but my favourite place was also Onar's farm.
In Gothic 3, Nordmar was my favourite territory as well.

Haste:
Yea, I know, there are some bugs but I can ignore those. The storyline and the game atmosphere makes me forget about the bugs.

May the Sleeper Awaken! Smile))))

Not a fan, but I liked Gothic and Gothic II. Gothic III... ...not really. It missed the whole feel.

First Gothic was the best though.

The whole series is good, though if I had to choose Gothic 1 would be the favourite, it just had the best atmosphere and story to it.

Only Gothic style game I've played is Risen 3, and I didn't much care for it...

Its the best RPG!
Played all of them, but Gothic 2 has a special place in my heart and I play it at least once per year, even though its an old game, it still has the magic and atmosphere of the good old games that somehow lack the new games.

Gothic 1 -> New camp
Gothic 2 -> Monastery of Inos
Gothic 3 -> Orc mercenary Smile)
