I must go back, and agree with Yuri...

You can force people to make Disco better, mates. It doesn't work like that. If something like this is going to happen, it is going to be on a voluntary basis, regardless of whether or not it will work.

"Feedback discussion should be HEAVILY monitored

and people should only be allowed to post if they have a solution to a present Issue about the faction,

All post in a feedback tread should be constructive, full of solutions and respectfull.

That way, people complaining without any constructive comments just to bring down a faction can't post .

Its a bit UTOPIC,, I know........"

picked that up from the last page.... - i think its funny. very actually. -

and there is me thinking that this should not be applied to a special subsection of the forum but should allways be this way in ALL sections - yes, even "yanf" threats. - yet i see a lot of disrepectful posts, - often enough nasty one liners when new people submit ideas.

but yes, judge others by the same standards if not higher ones that you want to be judged. some people cannot take critizism easily, other can - and besides, what people call "flames" varies by perception. some people get mad cause of harmless little comments - others just swallow the most serious insults.

but the point is - respectful non insulting posts should be the standard, without any exception - not even flood.

And there I disagree, some of the factions need to be brought up to date, they are lacking in detail and are somewhat vague. It's those factions that should be brought into the light and it's those factions that will most likely dodge the bullet. If it's not mandatory it doesn't work full stop and I might as well scrap the idea. I reckon a couple of test dummies good to go, and we can test this idea out. If it's a good one then I think it should be rolled out.

As regards forcing Disco to be better, no you cannot force it, but you can put all the pieces there to ensure that it's headed in the right direction. I have no intention of making the horse drink but I will lead it to water.

Regarding flames I don't think we can prevent them, but I think we can cure them. It's not ideal but it's the best you can do

So very signed, I have been known to be a little snarky at times, but I do try very hard to be a useful poster.

So, well, as the polls won't be able to cover the details, strict monitoring will be inevitable, simple..
And polls could be biased or subjective..

A poll can only as a question....so you would have to be able to give a choice, which means you would already suspect if something were wrong...
What if you just asked for input?
I believe that would be a much broader tool than a poll.

Methinks yes. Polls can only go so far, and have to be VERY well designed to be useful. For example, people took this thread to mean Eppy and others wanted individual characters to be able to join both sides of a conflict. As in both Corsair/Outcast at same time type thing, which is totally nonsensical and killed a lot of the good points/counterpoints about what was actually being addressed. When I first saw it (and I think this goes for a lot of people) and when Eppy wrote it, I only thought about the one piece of it, ASSUMING that everyone would realize that. They didn't, and it's a learning experience for polls; to get anything useful out of it, you need to tag your vote with a post explaining it- which leads us to the method of general discussion.

Also, I KNOW for certain some factions will get flamed no matter what you do; the reason I thought of Darkwings before was their distinctly non-Freelancer background, unconventional tag usage and lack of active players. In all my days on the server I've seen two, for a whopping total of 30 mins each. To be honest, if there is any faction for whom I really worry about their members, it's them. They WILL get flamed to no end, and it isn't fair to the real human on the other side of the screen, no matter how valid or justifiable said flames might be.

HOWEVER, I think this is a good idea nonetheless. I'd say let them do a little work on their faction status before they put it forward to iron out the easy stuff that will get them flamed mercilessly (for Darkwings, allow them to write up a new background or something), but its a good idea. For those concerned about flame-wars, take a stroll through the faction submissions. Even with LRDN (*cringe*) people stayed quite civil for the quality of the post. Despite what it might seem like, there has been good feedback on all of those threads, and, for example, [Black~Lagoon] have become better RPers and started fitting the server better because they went through the flames.

In my humble opinion, it will work. However, I think that we should take Eppy up on his offer and do a test run- it'll iron out some points about process, and give us a nice "acid test".

Go for it.

Think I overkilled that enough? Jeepers. And wow, I took my sweet time writing that... almost another page went by.

Is that a metaphor for a euphemism for forcing them?

I don't mean to offend you, Del, and I certainly don't want to hurt you in any way, but I believe that my point stands.

We're all obsessed with making things better that we're forgetting the fact that this is a GAME. People don't have the time and ability to turn this game into a full time job. This obsession with making things better, and etc... is coming into conflict with a lot of the freedoms of the people involved here.

If something needs to be addressed in a certain faction, address it in that particular faction. Don't make it a universal thing and pull everyone down with one issue. Make it an option to be able to submit a particular faction to evaluation or something...

I'll cite the BPA itself as an example. We once considered the use of Gunboats, but then after members of the community suggested against their use, we gave up the idea. There. It was simple, easy, and stress free. We smoothed out what could have been a potentially oorp problem for the BPA.

Your idea is swell, but the thing is, it's not a vaccination. It's rabies shot that you give to factions with the problem, not before it happens.

There's no point in submitting every single faction several painful needle jabs to the stomach for no good reason.

If this goes ahead, great. Just don't pull everyone down with it.

Mmm, the thing though is that it looks bad if we yell at some and not others; that will lead to unnecessary flaming, and general bad taste. Most factions are fine; review of BPA, for example, will probably look something like "ok you have ship list which is good" "ok diplomacy is good" "in-game RP is good, as is forum RP" *insert further good review* "we're done here, nice job guys".

Most factions have enough people to hold their own against criticism, and the quantity and quality of such that they'll get will almost assuredly make the server a better place. And if it won't, then the individuals in question have a problem on their end, not the community's. (Senya-style "criticism" aside)
