I'll put in my two cents...

I have always tried to at least say something before attacking. It's just good manners, and allows everyone involved to prepare. I can't tell you how many times an enemy (red) has come flying up, I get ready to scan him, and start to type and BLAM BLAM BLAM! I'm getting blasted in the middle of a sentence.

Way fun by the way...

So I'll say what most here have already said, this is an RP server, not a pvp server. Everyone should slow it down, breath, and take a little time to communicate their intentions.

It is a server rule:rtfm:, so let's all lead by example...

I'm sorry, but why should a terrorist or bounty hunter, for example, show manners?

We don't all want to roleplay knights in shining armour.

[font=Trebuchet Ms]Hi All:

As a relatively new player, what brought me to Disco and why I enjoy it so much is the ability to role-play different characters. Creating characters with different histories, personalities (good & evil), speech inflections, and temperaments allows me to interact with the game and other players in a more imaginative way.

For me, flying around and shooting stuff gets a bit rote after awhile. But that's me...I'm the sensitive type:)

So I would hope that you would ask me a few questions first then blast your guns. To be sure, I will not hesitate to blast you into vacuum.

All the best,

guardian

I'd personally think it should apply to more confusing situations, like a KoS situations as Kane has sanctionned. I mean if you are facing an enemy right in front of you, and both of you know you are enemies obviously, do you really have that much time to think about an original insulting message, write it down and thus being unable to use a bunch of your controls since you are writing? Writing isn't unforunately as fast and easy as a microphone.

Kane has posted in another thread, a while back, stating the line that appears in my sig, it doesn't matter how you flee, if you do you're out of the fight.

I'd have to agree on the 5k limit, anyone coming at me from 5k out is normally approaching to trade fire with me, if they subsequently get 5k away from me after that there's a strong possibility they don't want to come back and trade more shots.

Apply th 5k rule to Known enemys then there is no need for typing.

Thats 1 rule less.

Actually this is a RP server, so talking to people before you fire on them for any reason whatsoever is required to actually be RP. I don't care what reasons you think you have, typing 'diee'/'engaging' etc is at least an attempt to RP with someone, regardless of how good or not you think it is.

If you want to shoot first and not bothering saying anything... theres a PvP server around somewhere that'll take you.

You seem to be misinterpreting what I'm trying to say, which was in another thread entirely I believe, one not connected to declaring combat. If you are attempting to initiate combat declare it, there has to be some RP behind you're attack, there's no rule governing how much time you must give to someone between declaration and intent to fire, so you can say it just before. Doesn't ruin the element of surprise, which is only really possible if people aren't paying attention to their hud.

- i am undocking from pueblo, when my hud is on, I see two "red" guys, 1k, and they are shooting me. I don't know who they are, no time to scan them. I am trader in BW transport. I go back to pueblo. using all bots and bats, I success. I was angry and log off. I think they should say something.
- I am docking trade line, but there are two red Xenos (XA), they say "halt" one of them shoot me a little, I scare, but fortunately some of NPCs start shooting them, and they go for some distance. I am waiting a while, and I go my way. Xeno may not talk, but they talked and it was good...
- i enter california, i see some hostile NPCs, i am in camara with cargo, so I don't want to fight, I am docking on trade line. it is disrupted in the middle, I see one "white" guy there, but I cruise and go to the next docking ring, I see he is going after me, at the end on the trade line he engage me, I try to escape, but he has deadly weapon, few seconds and he killed me. after that he says "why don't you stop". I didn't know that he want something from me.
- in another char, as junker in csv, I fly from trafalgar to trade line. in a moment red, tagged GC guy is appearing in the trade line, he stop. i stop. we are 4k, he is going close to me, bomber with 10class weapons. no way to win, so the death looks in my eyes, I try to remember our RP, he is red but we should not be hostile. we scan each other then go own way.... uff.

if it is a war or clear situation and both sides know their RP and what they should do, they may not talk.
but all other cases they should talk...
