The trader or pirate that will not even attempt to exit the zone but is more then willing to fly off the edge of the map. Not to mention taunting you the entire time with little quirps like "Gonna be a while so I am going to get a cup of coffee". I can understand exiting the map if you are dodging and such but blatent flying in a straight line with the intention of wasting someone's time is wrong.
Well yes it's annoying.. but he's wasting his own time as well... best to scan his cargo.. and block the exits that lead the way he wanted to go... off course he can divert around... and lose more money than by paying...
that's the main problem with some traders: "it's my mine and you are stealing it".. "I would rather die than pay" ......
on the other hand.. I don't see a reason for a trader to just stop and pay either... I try to shoot/run.. if I see I have no chance I pay....
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
You know, when you face 2 Gunboats with a Greyhound in the Badlands, you have no other choice.
If they want a 'nerve contest' they will get one. I have no intention to give them that kill message.
I once left some 250k off the map.. And a BHG gunship followed me all the time.
Chasing a fighter in a GB blatantly trough whole system is pure stupidity.
He can't defend himself, and the only choice is to run, while the other one is trying so hard to kill him.
It was a very fun experience. At least I had some time to RP about reaching Texas soon.

i don t see a problem with running off the map either. - its a test of patience... and just cause the map ends there doesn t mean we have to stop and turn around. - of course ooc comments like, "i ll be off shopping" are not the way to go then - but RPing inchar meanwhile is fine. ( or pure silence )
a character doesn t want to die.... dieing is someone a char doesn t want to get used to... cause you can only do it one time. for the player, its something different, but then, its a RP server and the char would rather fly 750k in a straight line than to die.

Piracy is tough.
NOTHING the trader does excuses the pirate breaking the server rules.
Regarding flying off the "map" : The nav map is a gameplay feature and is completely meaningless in terms of roleplay. Outer space is limitless for all practical purposes, and if someone wants to use all that space in order to escape a pirate, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If the pirate doesn't stop the trader, then he has no legitimate cause to complain about anything that the trader does to escape.
It only wastes your time if you are willing to follow him. It takes two willing people for anyone's time to be wasted. The only thing that is wrong is a pirate whining about traders who escape him. It is a trader's primary role to avoid/escape pirates. Anything that they do that accomplishes that without breaking the server rules is justified, legitimate and well within their rights.
If the pirate doesn't forcibly stop the trader, he shouldn't be a crybaby about whatever the pirate does to escape. It isn't the trader's job to make sure that the pirate doesn't feel like a frustrated failure.
Instead of whining on the forums about how hard piracy is, some pirates just need to find a new occupation.

Well, seems to me people are just trying to make alot and alot and ALOT of rules , just for purpose to have rules. It's kinda good , I like some rules and I like the fact that there ARE rules to folow.Well I'll tell you what happens most of the time. All of my active chars are in some way conected to pirating (exept one) and since I'm REALY active I face alot of traders. Here is what happens almost every time. I usually pirate in S13 close to the NB JH.For everyone that hasn't been there , here is what you have to know.Wilds spawn in every 2-3 mins. They aren't THAT hard to kill but when you try to stop a trader and type at the same time , while being atacked by them you will soon learn that they take down your shield and hull very very fast.I try to keep the Wild away from the traders when I wanna stop them but that isn't apretiated. So I'm like 1-2k away from the JH to NB.I stop the trader , atempt a RP way to make him pay.He doesn't have to use cruise to get to the JH so he just engine kill's wich as you know cannot be stopped in anyway. At this time, I take damage from Wild and he runs away.Ok ... I fowol him to NB where there are MORE wild (every ******* time ) and I atempt to stop him again when he just engine kills ahead.I have no time to type , I can't make him stop and listen and I surtanly can't make him wait till I kill the wild(all good , everythink is legal for a trader). After hearing this , wich one of you can tell me I can't say.*Stop ,listen and pay 1m or die*.It sometimes costs me MORE money to repair my ship and equip it again with CD that I have used to stop him ( I have to use 'round 10 PER trader). If you are trinking that pirats should be kind and beg for money and trying to put it in a way that we HAVE to do that 'cuz a real pirate would do the same you are realy wrong. The way I see it.If he doesn't stop at *HALT* and then runs after the CD , this guy is loosing my time.I just blast him and I don't have to pay the huge bill for repairs. You say *Thats bad RP....* , I ask why? What do you think a real pirate would do , aa? Wait for you FINALY decide to stop and then try to stop you by force? I read the post of someone here that said , that I can take down his shield and eat his hull at 10-15% and then tax.Well .. it seems they find this hostile and stuff like that. And what do I say to someone who does this - *HALT* - *no-responce* - starts firing at me (I'm in a bomber so I can't just sit and watch). Then all of the sudden he says *ok ... don't shoot I'll pay ...* The trader atacks the pirate and THEN he asks to pay. Every , EVERY reality check will tell you that even if the trader or border ship scraches you , they will blast him without a thought. And ofcource the *Grand Final* today.I see a trader with 1000 passengers. And stop him.Lets see what he does. Before that I just want to say somethink. In the topic I made , I saw some people stand FOR the trader and said I was wrong.Ok .... he F1'ed two times , but I'm wrong 'cuz of bad RP.If THIS time I have done something wrong , then I'll just leave this server.
Don't forget that this time , I'm in a GB and take a look at how much of the GB shield has random NPC taken down, when normaly they don't even touch me.Now imagen I was in a bomber...how much would you think it would cost me to repair.Every real pirate would rather KILL the victim then let it escape. So pirats are bad RP'ers , aa ? Lets make a reality check.A pilot of a plain full of people or train or ship or whatever,Is asked to pay money for the life's of the passengers. They ALWAYS prefer a dealing with money instead of blood. This guy has 1000 passangers and you can see the RP results. So where does this leave us....hmm...a yes..Traders are much much MUCH more bad RP'ers.Ofcourse there are some traders wich gladly pay me.And next time I see them on scaner I leave them pass with somethink like *Godspeed*.But you can be sure that next time I see Brainiac I will just kill him.

i m sure one can judge people in a nicer way - offensive much? - while i agree with you in the general parts, - the trader protection is still a balancing feature and not a roleplay feature, so quesitons about it are legit. when its about roleplay - a pirate would of course blow a trader up if that one did not stop. - and a pirate would even blow a trader up for fun, just cause he can as cause he s evil.
cause we have those rules - doesn t turn a pirate that asks about them into a "crybaby" and does t mean he has to "find a new occupation" or that he is "whining".
so maybe its possible to choose a less offensive terminology then. ( especially from a moderator - we are here to encourage critizism of how things are, not discourage )
I believe that leaving the map is quite reasonable. I'm not going to pay a pirate just because diverting from my route overall costs me a profit-being pirated once makes you and your parent corporation look like an easy target, a sheep to be shorn every time he comes by. And while that pirate is off chasing you, he isn't targeting your colleagues, so they're making their runs on-schedule, and the company still makes a net profit.
EDIT: Oh, and pirates with grudges are bad RP, too. I will never tire of mentioning the incident wherein a Corsair Lunchbox chases me down, shoots me down to a bar-and-a-half, makes his demand, and never stops firing. Legal? Yes. He didn't get sanctioned. Bad RP? YUS!

Eternal, everything you did then was right and proper, you demanded he said no, you blew him to pieces, the death of 1000 people is not on your conscience it's on his. Secondly a CD will bring someone out of E-Kill. It's been used on me when I've been fighting against other people. It's a bugger and hugely annoying when you think you've escaped and then you're still being fired at.
The point is whether or not you agree, a deamnd for cash or cargo must be made. If the trader is not allowing you time to type, just go with the dreaded "2mil or die". Sometimes it's all you have. But that demand must be made.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.
I'm not a fan of the run of the map tatic, you can always have a destination in mind and stay ahead of the game. Harder to pull off for a trader than a fighter, but not impossible.
