No thats not legal. If the LSF agent has scanned your cargo bay and taken a screen we will stop you on launch and attempt to fine you for your crime, if you refuse to co-operate then you will be engaged . But you should never be killed straight out of hand.

They shouldn't blow you up without warning, they should stop you, fine you, and if you reject it (most people do), then they can kill you.
I'm not going to even bother bringing up the controversy related to whether you should've stopped or not.

LSF logical is that you have failed to follow a Military Order, therefore you will now be fired upon.
In a good Role Play story, you would be allow to come out of the base and start your " What contraband?? I don't have any on my ship.....See......Oh, your long range scanner must be not calibrated right. Gave you a false reading." etc, etc,
However, some forget that the server is main goal is : Role Play - first. This is a giant D&D game in space.
If your (meaning any player) primary goal is to PvP or 'beat the game', then Discoverygc may not be for you.
Oh give me a break. Everybody is always complaining about what pirates do and don't do. If some pirate says "stop or die" they are still in role play. They can take your shields down and reduce your hull to within a thread of destruction before demanding any credits or cargo. So long as they make the demand before the explosion, they are within the boundaries of the rules.
The "stop or die" may be an initial communication between the pirate and the trader. So long as there is a demand for credits or cargo before the explosion, all is good.

Now quit whining about being pirated. ''

You are assuming that every character is a completely rational decision maker.
Good roleplaying does not necessarily mean rational decision making at all times.
There is no such thing as a person who is a totally rational decision maker. Not in real life, and not in Sirius.
You are also not taking into account that the financial bottom line may not be a character's primary motivation. In the real world people take risks, and sometimes the consequences are deadly and could have been easily avoided. It should be no different in Sirius.
I tried to pirate a trader yesterday, but he slipped through the trade lane just as I cut it. I fired off a demand line, and he actually waited for me at the jump gate, not because he wanted to throw away some cash, but because I gave him a unique sentence instead of a "2million". I was in a single LF, he was in an Adv Train. There were at least half a dozen hostile NPCs doing their best to kill me at the jump gate, and I had to type one-handed while constantly evading. There is no question that he could have run, and escaped, or fought back and killed me or escaped, but he sat there and we had a very good pirate-trader dialogue. His behavior was completely irrational from any financial standpoint, but not from the standpoint of trying to have a fun time playing this game.
The point of all this is to have fun, and sometimes that means the player must force his character to behave irrationally in order to have more fun that he would otherwise. Sometimes that may mean making the pirate's job easier, sometimes it may be the opposite.
If "good roleplaying" results in less fun for everyone involved, then what's the point? If I want "a completely realistic experience" then I'll immerse myself in real life. But real life often isn't as rewarding or fun as the product of our imaginations.
"Good Roleplaying" is behavior that results in everyone leaving the encounter after having some fun.
"Bad Roleplaying" satisfies no one, ultimately.

What do you think a real pirate would do , aa? Wait for you FINALY decide to stop and then try to stop you by force?
In that case I look forward to meeting you in space and getting a screenshot of this, because it's against the rules.
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.

This entire thread was created to flame pirates. Every few weeks there's a new thread that complains about how pirates conduct business. Here's some examples:
- Complaints about "2 mil or die" lacking role play
- Complaints about pirates asking for credits instead of cargo
- Complaints about pirates attacking before they say anything (note that non-pirates do this on a regular basis)
- Complaints about pirates pirating near planets and lawful bases
- Complaints about pirates operating in lawful systems
- Complaints about pirates using trade lanes
- Complaints about pirates killing trade lanes when a trader enters one
- Complaints about pirates pirating the same person more than once
- Complaints about pirates not giving the trader a 24 hour pass after they've been paid
- Complaints about pirates with a generic Pirate ID an no faction affiliation (um ... the whole point behind the "generic")
- Complaints about pirates using CD's
- Complaints about pirates using gunboats instead of fighters
- Complaints about pirates pirating traders (period)
This is by far not a complete list. There are many others. But I've heard each of these complaints (either in forum or online).
It sounds like traders want a free ride. Most traders just wanna make the quick buck so they can buy their battle cruisers to hunt down pirates ... oh i give up.

With so many complaints about pirates, maybe the pirate thing needs to be nerfed.

You do know that Xoria runs probably the best pirating faction on Discovery, don't you? I get RP from the Hackers every time I've been pirated. However the point of this thread was to ensure that pirates are aware that "Stop!" is not a demand per the rules. Thusly you cannot utter such and destroy them for refusing to comply. A demand for credits or cargo must be made. This is not a "whine at the pirates" thread, it's a "get your bloody act together and stop acting like terrorists" thread.
