I did experience the same problem a couple of times now (like always when i try to reinstall freelancer). Let me guess that you are neither from USA nor GB. Just clean uninstall the game.. here is a tutorial (use your CD copy instead of the iso one, though)

Code:

- completely uninstall Discovery/Vanilla Freelancer
- use CCleaner (don't skip this step)
- restart your machine
- install freelancer (this time around it shouldn't tell you that you have to restart your machine )
- if it still says that you have to restart, then use this file placed @\Documents\My Games\Freelancer\PerfOptions.ini  >>  http://pastebin.com/ffH3AeXf
- launch Freelancer
- install discovery (when installing discovery, just press Yes and continue even if it gives you errors. That's normal because of

So after trying for several more hours i followed your steps 4 times with the CD and neither had worked for me, I tried to do it one last time with the ISO instead of the CD copy i had, I did a fresh install, used CCleaner, restarted my pc then installed discovery after a long agonizing wait i've managed to get it working thank you all for your help you guys are awesome! its currently 2:31am FML i'll start playing later "Today" Cya in game o7..

And DSAce is the Mods AntiCheat. You will either have to disable your AntiVirus or set DSAce.dll as exception, if your AV removes the file. You cannot play on the Official Server without the DSAce.dll

Strange indeed i thought it would have worked with the CD but god knows, I got it off Ebay several years ago so i think its US copy not sure, but i do have 2 copys from the UK as well. just glad its working fine, Also my AV has been set to allow DSAce.dll access.

Guide:

- Completely uninstall Discovery mod, Freelancer, and FLMM.
- Download and use CCleaner and run it (don't skip this step)
- Restart your PC or Laptop.
- Download a freelancer ISO (Just google "Freelancer ISO download")
- Install a fresh copy of freelancer with the newly downloaded ISO, Also install the crack that comes with it. (This time around it shouldn't tell you that you have to restart your machine.)
- If it still says that you have to restart your PC/Laptop, then use this file place it in "@\Documents\My Games\Freelancer\" save it as "PerfOptions.ini" >>DOWNLOADED HERE>>( http://pastebin.com/ffH3AeXf )
- Download and Install Freelancer Discovery mod "latest DL, All tho i did mine at 4.88"
- Launch Freelancer it shouldn't go to launch and then kick you back out saying ""Cannot detect a capable 3D graphics card""

Try these steps

1. Uninstall disco and freelancer and any other mods (some mods interfere with disco)

2. Go into your my documents and delete any saved folder that you see of freelancer/disco

3. Check your virus checker for any quarantined “dsace.dll” and remove it

4. Temporary disable “live” protection of your virus checker, and also whilst at it, make sure you don’t have an over protective firewall

5. Reinstall freelancer to default folders and then install disco to default folders
Eg mine is C:\Users\*your login*\AppData\Local\Discovery Freelancer 4.88.1

6. Go into your virus checker and tell it to allow that ENTIRE folder and all in it

7. Try disco before enabling virus checker

That SHOULD work,

If that works, re enable your virus checker, if it still works, then it’s done and shouldn’t flare up again, if it now stops working, and your virus checker as re quarantined the dsace, then you have a naff virus checker

Uninstall it and get a different one that works
