Balancing the ships we currently have is an ongoing (and difficult/time-consuming) task. Adding a new tier of ships will upset all that once again purely for the sake of giving people "something to work towards".

I would rather add new types of equipment balanced against the old but "with a twist". That or cosmetics are the better way to introduce new content that people will want but that doesn't introduce power creep.

it is the same principle as in architecture. Design correctly and you will see results.
If you dont design correctly then you wont.

While that is true, Haste, adding a new tier of ships would also give the impression of advancement and evolution. Not just adding stuff like docking modules, which almost nobody uses, because they are not a part of the core PVP gameplay.

Cool ideas, but as Spazzy said it would take a lot of work. And, how long would it take before this burst of activity dies back down. Probably too short a time to make it worth the effort.

Some time ago, I brought forth a proposal to the Devs, when the Researcher ID was reintroduced, that would allow people with that ID to locate new substances in random anomalies throughout Sirius. These highly rare substances would allow for stronger armor and stronger weapons to be created on higher Core (6-10) POB's.

This proposal was largely ignored due to power creep. I doubt that the Devs would now want to go that route all of a sudden, as the effort to rebalance the new ships with the existing ones would be painstaking, not to mention the effort to create these ships as well.

It's a nice thought though...

Well, why I said it would be the easiest route with the ships is that...it is not like we need new models NOW.
You can use the same model for the Mk III version and add a new one -at some point- later down the line.

Make the ships much more expensive, but raise the stats in handling and core recharge by around...10% percent across the board. I mean, it is only 10%.
But hey, people still go for a Mk 8 armor upgrade even though it is only 0.1 better than a Mk VII

I'd suggest to do a poll. In fact, introducing power creep by achievements you would have to do ingame is a pretty neat idea. Having in mind, to gain access to "exotic" stuff is currently only possible via SRP it forces you to spend and write a couple of hours only on forums for writing, designing, etc. Finding a way giving access to SRPs or special content combined with ingame(more special than "please deliver X commodity to Y) and forum work like Garret suggested might be pretty cool.
