I am extremely skeptical there were only a few FR5s last year. I filed many myself.

'I' - please don't try to push forward your personal opinion as a fact. Nom is entirely correct that such satellites are not easily detectable by lawful presence, much like unlawful bases.

Well lyth unlawful bases are just inlore not found b/c they are usually rock-bases among the asteroids.
You can easily lose pursuing law enforcement in those things inRP etc etc.

Satellites on the other hand, especially in this time in the future, are easily detectable as a construction. What, however, keeps them alive if they have some sort of cover story that they keep as a show while under the table they deal with smuggling.

Edit: Also if you want to be technical the satellite would orbit around the planet. So it is just in game that they would be 'on the dark side' .

Those sattelites are not sattelites. They are dockable solar object.

Wouldn't this kill any sort of npc faction ID whose role is smuggling? Why invest in a Junker or ... AFC pilot with a perilous reputation between lawfuls and unlawfuls, if you get the choice to pick up a corsair train (and whatever alternative an OC might have), load it with the illegal goods of your choice, and cash those millions directly from the consumer pockets?

If you want to do away with unlikely to happen but probably crippling FR5 ruining a smuggler career, you have a case by case, short term alternative. Just give all police ID's (including indies) the /nodock command, and have them patrol the lanes and docking spots for any trace of smuggling.... sheesh.

As I suggested in Leaders' forum:

(03-14-2016, 06:10 PM)Snak3 Wrote: All official factions should have oversight over their bases as substitution for FR5. This could create some cooperation between local hunters and corporate representetives.

In addition, it would force active actions against trouble makers rather than passive one like FR5, which could be reserved only for persistent ones who are breaking RP ( and even then it is not FR5 but 1.3 rule ).

whatever. The international space station would be something like this. They need to orbit the planet anyway so what difference does it make what you call them too.

in fact you are kinda wrong in a sense.

sat·el·lite
ˈsadlˌīt/
noun
1.
an artificial body placed in orbit around the earth or moon or another planet in order to collect information or for communication.
synonyms: space station, space capsule, spacecraft; More
2.
ASTRONOMY
a celestial body orbiting the earth or another planet.

A moon technically is a satellite.

the satellite isn't actually a satellite as far as i know, it's just a representation of a landable location on the planet

ie it isnt actually a satellite

it would make sense though for there to be a satellite in space though inRP for efficiency reasons.
You do not want a freighter to move a long distance from space to the planet and back again to transfer cargo little by little from a mother ship.
Instead, it is better for the freighter to move the goods on a station orbiting a planet to drop the cargo there, making it quicker for the mother ship to leave later as well as the station's crew would have some sort of system to take the cargo down to the planet's surface.

God damn it. It's ingame mechanic to represent dockable object. It could be mooring fixture. Does not change the fact that it's just an object to dock with.

We could use the same big red cross that Tomioka has.
