Reading through this thread makes me sad. It makes me feel that all people care about is the PvP aspect. For me, I care about having a good time. RP is my favorite thing; and winning a battle is nice. But not a mandatory thing. I've never experienced this "shadow logging" either. When I play I really try to stay within the rules. I never engage unless I know that I am 100% certain I am allowed to do so in this instance. I think people's priorities have shifted to PvP because people may be bored of the aspect of RP, bored of the server, or bored of the story line. Boredom is a sad excuse for trolling and making someone's day horrible. I feel like back in the day the server was in its prime and this didn't happen. But I never played Multi on Disco back then, only single player in Vanilla. If somehow people could entice the populace into playing on the server again this may bring more life to the server and might help this problem.

Obviously blatant griefers who admit to causing grief for the sake of it should be punished, but they are already subjected to rule 0.0 or whatever the fairplay-rule is called. By articulating a 'reminder' like this, admins just legitimise whining or even reward it. Silly.
FYI many years ago I wrote long sobstories about the wicked Reavers and how they saw us all as meat bags put there for their entertainment. It annoyed me so much that I started going to conn a lot and before long I got good enough to win most fights. I never got to Yber or Haste's level, far from it, but I was decent enough to handle most situations. Everyone can do that easily if they are determined to do so, but why should they when it's faster and easier to whine on forums until you get your way. Admins, hell-bent on 'making things better', have long been useful tools in this process, since they themselves lack experience of the other side of the coin.
Also shooting IS role play and you have to forgive some of us for not really being that interested in sub-standard clichéd storytelling and dialogue. To each their own, but to me it's much more 'immersive' getting jumped by a mean pirate who is actually mean through his/her actions, rather than said person just telling me how mean they are.

The thing that is constantly lost on people who raise this point is that spending "lot of time in conn" is neither mandatory, fun, or simply possible for considerable part of community, who still should be able to enjoy their time flying and RP'ing their chars. And if they'll won't find that opportunity at Disco, they'll simply move on, because its Disco's job to build attractive enviroment, not their to spend hours or days to adapt - despite general trend to guilt or shame them into.
Also, please consider person who can put hour per day, two tops. Why are people like that relentlessly assaulted by other folk or fellow faction members with notices how they can spend their precious aftertime on something they not enjoy instead of faction or people around actually tring to create other opportunities for them too?

Still new and trying to fully understand this thread.
Got the "shadow logger" stuff but not the "blue message".
Probably because I use FL ID and didn't kill any player yet?
Are those "blue messages" kill-confirmations or it happen before engagement?
Sorry for this noob question but as wrote, I'd like to understand, in advance thanks for your answer.
About the shadow log thing, some do write here like if they are not able to understand the difference between :
a- Switching character to engage RP enemies (it may sometime target same player, by coincidence)
b- Switching character to keep engaging a specific player (no coincidence here)
When it's so easy to understand the difference even for a noob like me.
Therefore it looks like easy to note who do shadow or not, am I wrong?
About this, another noob question : how can one know that same player is behind two different character? (unless that player do tag is character with "linked or similar tag) Thanks again in advance.
The problem is that many RPers want to RP without being shot everywhere in Sirius, and PvPers want to be able to kill everyone everywhere.
There should be
-places where people can RP in a perfectly safe way (created by game mechanics, not by rules),
-places where there is always PvP going on other than Connecticut because conn is boring (created by bases of factions which are hostile to each other and which aren't 100k+ away from each other, and more liberal engagement rules),
-and places where moneymakers are concentrated, yet spread out enough to be piratable in hit and run tactics (trade concentraded onto a few routes again, and not equally spread out all over Sirius, and several mining fields of equal yield not too far from each other).
Sadly, the population is to low atm to always fill all 3 kinds of places all the time, except if there was only 1 or 2 of each, which would also be boring in the long run.

You sum up people's arguments as "git gud" to try and take away from their worth. It's a poor display from you, and a complete lack of ability to have a discussion.
I, as someone who plays mainly for the combat aspect of the game, do not look for "lol ez blues gg no re"
I look for fights because I like fighting. I like 1v1, I like 1v2, I like 1v3, 1v4 and 1vwhatever number you can come up with. I'm not out there to ruin your day because you're red to me and I hate everyone. People think they're the center of the universe and everyone is looking for them. When a single person is out to engage 5, 6 o 7 of you it's not because he wants to ruin your life, obviously. It's because he wants to fight regardless of winning or losing, which is what most of you self proclaimed non pvpers care about. If someone beats you, he's a mean individual who only wants to cause hatred. And dare he not beat your group against the odds, that means he's out to grief you to no end.
That's not true in 95% of the cases, and much less for anyone who has posted in this thread.

(still as noob) Yes but on he other hand I do see possibility of being attacked everywhere by players (and not only by easy NPC) as part of the Disco RP, thrill and spirit.
If I don't want that thrill I would just not choose the multiplayer mode.
Splitting RP and PvP would be sad. As far as I understand only problem here is when it get personal and not RP.

Have nice fly.
Not talking about splitting it entirely.
But give the people who just want to talk a few places where they can do it without being "removed" from the game for two hours because someone else got bored.
And give the people who do like to fight a few places where they get a break from people who shout "THIS IS A RP SERVER I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU" when ever they see a projectile.
There' still overlap, but not ONLY overlap. Like 10% of space RP only (capital house planets, Freeport no fire zones), 10% of space PvP hotspot (a few systems, PvP still within RP context, but generally accepted as being a place where there's lots of PvP), and 80% same as now.
Like... if someone sees a bunch of people in New York, he'll know there's no point in going there if he wants to shoot people, because they'll be hiding under the cover of planetary superdefenses. If there a bunch of people in Omicron Delta, he'll know that he'll get shot if he goes there, because that space is dangerous. (both are just theoretical examples)
Right now PvP hotspots and RP hotspots are the same places, which creates all this friction about playing style.
