Well, from what I've read here, I gathered that you actually jettisoned 50% of your cargo after someone shot that cargo hold of yours and you destroyed your cargo so it seems more rp - but you laughed in the face of danger, 10 seconds from total destruction.
It's call a forced donation. Really you have no choice if you know there going to kill you. I don't have a problem donating to Xenos or Outcasts. Indies pirates I won't fund. Really don't complain just pay it's not worth the trouble.
Thou i agree if you say no, the pirates should just move on. But there never going to change because they all watch "Pirate movies" thus thinking they have to act that way.
um...
so like.. When I actually pirate someone and he refuses to give me cash, and blast him away I'm under the influence of the movies.
Well whop dee doo, I'm actually quite sorry I can't board his ship, steal it and sell him and his crew to slavery on Crete.
Blowing up instead will do.
This seems to be an rather weird case of communication - misscommunication so I'll rather drop the entire subject before it starts giving us the bad name. I replied at first to defend the Guild but I feel that part is done, so there's nothing more to discuss.
Sure wish traders would role play and actually come to a stop. By the way ... if a pirates says "STOP" ... that is a demand for the trader to actually stop. House militaries and police make the demand "HALT" every day and destroy traders for not following instructions.
' Wrote:You MUST make a demand for credits or cargo before killing. Simple as that.
If he gets away via a trade lane, bad luck. It was your fault for not keeping it disrupted...
And the trader is supposed to role play as well ... its not a one way street. But then ... traders don't respond to halt and stop very often. There are a few ... but for the most part ... they wait till their nearly destroyed before they respond.
' Wrote:Nope. Unless you own all the corsair systems, which you don't, you can't kill a trader without making a demand.
However, if Kuraine's new IDs come through, you will be able to rob traders with Passengers, VIPs etc. But until then, you can only shoot the ship down to 99% health.
So all those independents in Liberty, Kusari, Rheinland and Bretonia are violating the rules? Think about it ... independents don't own a system either ... but 9 times out of 10 they are destroying those who do not follow orders ... and nobody says a thing about it.
' Wrote:I keep seeing these threads appearing, and the same arguments from both sides rehashed over and over and over. It's getting very boring.
Basically, any pirate saying something different to the ubiquitous "2 mil or die" is someone that is trying to roleplay the situation. <-- Yup ... and since that's about all a pirate can say before the trader bolts ... that's about all the traders get.
Show some respect and try to return the favour. <-- I've tried being kind ... even saying please and thank you ... and traders go on silently ignoring me.
Please stop digging out loopholes. They will always be there to be exploited. It's up to all of us to show some maturity and not use them. <-- I encounter a new non-existent rule every time I encounter a new trader. For some reason they always claim the pirate has done something wrong.
The phrase "Would you be so kind as to donate to my cause?", or something similar, when delivered by a pirate is a demand. It's obvious. The specifics of that demand can surely come later as the situation develops. <-- Imagine that ... a pirate attempting to role play to the kilt and the trader ignores him ... no wonder most pirates just stick with the "2 mil or die"
Use a bit of the old (un)common sense and weyhey, we've got an RP situation on our hands. It's really NOT THAT DIFFICULT.
Then can come the description of the cause, the haggling, the escort safely through space, etc, etc, etc.
The rule lawyering that keeps on appearing in these threads is sickening. <-- These are the ones coming up with non-existent rules.
This is a game that DEPENDS upon the interaction between players. If you're not prepared to interact, please go and find somewhere else to play.
I'm talking to both the pirates that only say "2 mil or die" and the traders who say "I'd rather die than pay". <-- Considering I do not fall into either of these categories ... // SIGNED //
Rant over. I'm not accusing any particular person here. Just trying to say please, please, please get into the spirit of the game. If anything I've said upsets you, then feel free to flame me to your hearts content. I just hope that some little bit of what I've said here starts to sink in.
Anyhoo, I'm off to hospital now. Sucks to be me. <-- Hope its nothing serious.

The rules are there, you should roleplay every situation. That includes making a demand.
Yes there are Robert. I'm glad you mentioned this ... and you might wanna include everyone else in this situation ... not just pirates. I've seen my share of bounty hunters, military, police, navy, etc hanging around jump holes.
Oh ... there's nothing in the rules that say you cannot camp at a jump hole. The rules speak of dock killing. Normally when I'm pirating ... I see a trader emerge form the jump hole ... I've got a few seconds to type my demand while he's in the cut screen. Once I see his shields up and starts maneuvering ... he's fair game. First shot is usually my demand, "500k if you give freely ... 2 mil if you make me work for it." I'd say about 75% of the traders actually stop and pay me 500k. Its those 25% that give me grief that I've gotta chase em down.
Now if traders would be more inclined to act like traders and stop saying, "you'll be sorry" and such. They threaten, "I'm gonna place a 10 mil bounty on your head." Um ... I only asked for 500k ... mathematician. Hmm ... is it OORP for a trader to place a 10 mil bounty on a pirates head for a single demand for 500k? This might be an interesting question to entertain.
Hmm, on gneisenau, i just say
"pay now or die"
heh but i don't know really, i have heard on them saying donate to my cause. I would just ask, You sending your kids to school? and if he says no, I'd be like, heh, what cause then and blast 'em full of hot plasma! poof! flying turkey pies, yum!

Read it ... Xoria is not an admin yet. And he wrote that in April.
Anyway ... my statement was not addressing that rule (one I am very familiar with). My statement is that "HALT" and "STOP" are demands. While you still have to demand something (cash or cargo) ... the words "halt" and "stop" ARE demands.
Now ... can we get some traders that will role play? Or do we gotta go back to the generic "2 mil or die" role play?

Yes, they are demands, but not "demands" in the sense that you can shoot them up (as in destroy) for not following.
You need to stop microanalyzing what people say.
Also, I've never heard of house police/military destroying a trader for not halting.
