We're currently discussing this on admin forums. Thanks to Puck for the ideas. Current admins are overloaded with requests and they need help. And we all seem to agree on the point that admin team needs a significant reinforcement. The problem is we need level headed people who are willing to dedicate a lot of free time and get nothing in return. We need people who are not driven by gaining more power over others, but who want to do something for this community.

So I think the system should prevent nominating people who don't want to do the admin job. The fact is that some people can be persuaded into being admins (because it probably still is an honour to be one) even though they were not willing to do it in the first place which might result in their inactivity a few weeks later. So I think those who would want to become admins should step out of the line first and tell the public why they think they would become good admins.

This is my personal opinion, I am not speaking for the admin team now, they haven't come to a definite final yet.

I like the idea. It also seems to cover all angles that could lead to problems.

People taking the positions would have to know that it is a lot of work! I used to be a mod for a major gaming board (vnboards), and I certainly wouldn't want to do that again (although I got some nice freebies for it;).

I've tried to forget, I've tried SO HARD to forget...

Sure, go for it

One bad side might be people who will want to become admins just for that purpose. Not to mention what might happen if we get election campaigns.

*starts gathering credits for a Election Campaing*

10 Million to vote on me!!!

/sarcasm

That is something i will see happening, but luckily i think they admins will see those (sudden) increases incoming message's

I personally do not see why anybody doesnt want to be an admin, apart from the fact that it will hit deeply into your gaming-time.

What more joy can one get from helping others into a better world..??
(maybe its the Sys-Admin in me, but i cant help it getting a good feeling after doing something (astronomically simple for me, and a huge issue for someone else) for a member/user.

part of the proposed nomination process is making sure those nominated are willing to put the time and energy required into the job. I know how time consuming (and sometimes unfulfilling) the job itself can be. It would be made sure those nominated would know what they were in for.

this idea was proposed to avoid actual elections, i cannot see how a division based on an election would benefit the community. it would simply get dirty.

yeah.. I'm not a big fan of the election process either.. I have an 'advisory board' (bunch of clever bastards who know stuff about that particular field) who I mention candidates to and we privately fight about it before anyone knows we are even discussing anyone! (Thats in RL by the way).

Hence my support for the Admins making the decisions (with a council of their choosing) and just doing the congratulations in public... no rejection and no false hope and consequential possible disappointment...

I certainly would not put some poor bastard out on the firing range like Xoria just experienced because it's a very personality/profile based bias.
I certainly would not let narrow minded, insecure people hammer at my leaders! I fire people for stuff like that! (Speak your mind but speak it with honor!)

For the record.. if the opportunity ever arose I would love to be an Admin but I have a few weaknesses:

1) I know nothing about programming stuff.
2) I've only been here for like 2 months or something.
3) This is the first forum I have ever participated in.
4) I would abuse my uber god-like power by putting Cabbages in everyones holds.
5) I would change rule breaking peoples names to funny ones that involve vegetables.
6) I would sanction Admins who misbehave.
7) I would give the Angels Admin guns for those who 'refuse to be helped'.
8) I would edit forum posts and make nasty idiots say nice things against their wills..heh heh
9) I would be noob central for noobies, giving them free stuff all the time to help em along.
10) Who the hell wants a cheerleader for an Admin?

Gazoooing!

come to think of it... I think a reprensetative council of some sort would be a cool idea... but I hate meetings... blehh. (and it would have to be a secret council...mwaahaahaaa).

*gets paranoid*

maybe it already exists....

I'll step forward too to take up the role, if at least only on the forums while deployed. The reasons:
  • I have some PHPBB experence so I can work on the forums if they happen to have a glitch anytime.
  • I am a RP giant and have never ever gotten a sanction or even a warning from any admins.
  • I'm on the forums at least ten times a day for a time of an hour or more each. (Only on days when there isn't anything to do here)
  • I'm slowly relearning how to mod after my long hiatus from the modding community.
  • I am firm but fair in sanctions and things that pertain to the rules and the way things work here.
That's just a few things off the top of my head, but that's why I feel I would be a good admins, but it's up for the admins to decide.
