Hello!
I am new to RP and to Discovery, so what I will describe might be acceptable or even normal, but it seems wrong to me, and I would like to know opinions of older players.

So. Yesterday a guy called (no naming) (writing from memory, might be a little wrong, but easy to confirm) flying shieldless (!) Stargazer told me that he is broke, stuck and cant even do missions, and "would you be kind enough to buy me a starter ship". I tried to explain about /restart Beginner command, but he would not listen, soon he said he does not want to restart, not answered why. He was level 43, I asked a person with starter ship and lvl 40 about money, he had 2 millions. So, that means (no naming) flying Stargazer being level 43, had more than 2 millions credits! He was simply lying to make people give him money.

Later I was talking to a friend, who told me he is helping a "child who knows nothing". I asked for name, and guess what, (no naming) again, pretending to be a total noob, asking for money.

In few hours his level was already 62! I don't know how much money is that, but certainly its more than enough to buy decent ships. And later I came to Pensy, and there he was, asking for money in open system chat. I told a player that was near "he is lying, he is not noob and he has money, look at his level". The person responded "I know, that's why I gave him 1 credit" (just to troll, I understand).

SO! How normal, acceptable, tolerable is such behavior? Lie and pretend to make others give you cash?
I read all rules I could find here on forums, but did not find anything about this.

An interesting encounter, refer to my comment below. However, please do not use player names referencing to possible rule violations. If you think someone has done something unacceptable, report them in the respective forum section.

Technically, begging people constantly counts as harrassing.

He was not exactly "begging" (please, give me some money, please please, I am so poor). He asked for money and lied a lot, like "broke", "can not do missions", "need at least starter ship", etc. Its lies, manipulation what bothers me.

Since if you /restart Beginner, you can make 450k in 2.5 minutes (I measured), asking for money should be entirely prohibited on our server. There is no point to allow it, you can make millions really fast!

It's still being obnoxious, I guess it's partially cheating by lying to people, but it's also up to others if they donate or not. Always check the rank.

They are not the same players.
Funnily enough, the player you are referring to now has 167mil.

If he continues, report it.

There has always & will always be scammers. That can't be fixed

The best lesson that can learned from moments like this is to never dole out credits to someone simply because they ask for it.

It's a good thing to be helpful & generous, but you should always be suspicious of players that come begging.

Instead, I always found a better approach to be to donate small amounts of creds to low-level players that are RP'ing or attempting to RP & ask that they pay it forward to someone at random at some point in the future.

I have encountered this player as well, yesterday. I kept asking him why he needed the money and I was met with the same answers as OP. I asked him if he wants to make money, and after agreeing to it, he ignored me. He just kept begging non-stop and refused any sort of help or advice.

It makes me wonder - what about legit roleplay that is asking for donations or inRP begging? I had one character that did such a roleplay in past. I mean, asking for donation within RP isn't a demand.
