I dont want to sneeze in my light fighter and damage it.
Its not the point of light fighters to be paper thin. This isn't WW1 bi-plane simulation

Yeah ok you're right, light fighters should just be VHFs with better guns.

Because if you're running away, and trying to evade players, you hit EK and then turn around/CD them/float away until they're out of range and start up cruise before they do because they're suffering from the 5 second cooldown and can't CD you back? To stop people doing really long EKs?

I don't know for sure, but I'd like to imagine that's part of it.

None of what you've described has been a problem in vanilla, though. You still aren't faster than other people with thrusters of the same shipclass. Long EKs are just as punishing for your hull in a fight than being kicked out of EK and floating for a little while. Point and case, I just can't befriend this kink that CDs have here. It makes PvP pretty boring, imo.

Removing damage behind CDs would be a terrible idea. I for one don't want to have to deal with being unable to pop a mine or an obnoxious torpedo.
There might be issues behind PvP itself, but CD damage isn't one of them, nor is it very substantial if your shields are up.

I can point out that if you are ganking a light fighter all you need to do is desheild and them CD spam. If you are running out of ammo you can disengage and get more while your team is pinning the lf. Rinse and repeat. The CMS the lf has would be limited anyway and soon depleted.

Is there any particular reason why you're referring to situations where the hostile side is outnumbering the (by supposed context) singular one? If you had teammates, you can tagteam a ship, and pin all the opposition, to make sure they don't escape.

Evasion and speed is the strongest part of the LF. I actually flew an LF into a group fight in Penny a week ago and as a LF, I barely feel like I did damage, but the profile really helped saved me a few hits when I was being focused, even they tried to CD at some point. Just had to play it safe.

If you're alone, cruising around and actually got caught in a LF - well - quite frankly - you deserve to get caught. There's no way people should be able to outspeed you - only outplay you. Most of these days, LFs are either used for RP, racing or scouting rather than fighting tbh.

LFs weren't all designed for PvP and remain one of the harder classes to balance in terms of fair play. However, they're certainly not useless. A capable pilot in an LF can do a significant amount of damage without taking a hit, but some LFs just aren't made for it, such as the Arrow or Hayabusa.

I can point out that ganking a light fighter isn't what most people would endorse unless someone went out of their way to be annoying.

It's a light fighter. It's not meant to withstand direct combat. There may be ways to work out that issue but your suggestions aren't any of them. Not to mention that some LFs are literally metal strapped to an engine, it's an obvious risk and not something that can be realistically rectified.

Because it's a tactic and a straight counter to those who like to Engine Kill before your eyes. It's a thing because it's PvP balance and it makes sense.
