Hey there, im pretty good at modeling in 3Ds Max but was wondering if there were a tutorial or some such on the creation of freelancer ships. Or how I would go about starting a new one? anyhelp?
Actually you're quite mistaken in your thought that the stickies know all, the stickies in fact do not hold the golden truth to ship editing. Its actually just a loosely collected group of links to resources that are really only useful if you've got the general idea of what you need to to.
Are you sure you read them all correctly, Tenacity?
you can also petition the mod-gods for help like I did, now look at me, im working on the wilde VHF
Some say that he is allergic to a fungus found only between the toes of Corsairs,
and that he is oblivious to 98% of Liberty Law. All we know is... He's called the Busdriver!

and the mod-gods would be.
Jinx: makes a mean carrier (kusari, order)
Epyon the bored: uber OC lover (outcast BS and GB)
Xing: coalition craft.
there are a few more good modelers but these three are the ones i look at the most. browse the mod section and find the people that makes ships that interest you and get tips from them.
i personally have no talent for modding. my skill lies in video game story line creation.
Designing a ship for Freelancer should be done in the same way as every other model you'll have done up 'till now. Put the design on paper, or sketch one out in Photoshop or paint. Import the schematics, if you want, and then model it.
Once you have your model, textured or no, post up some pictures, assuming you wants to include it in this mod, here and let the community as a whole critique it for you.
Once you've got the modelling and texturing done, you can ask again and we'll help you with the (usually simple) process of importing it into the game.
