right back at you.

I have seen some pretty shameless chest beating in official factions that made me want to hurl. looking down on indies. bossing em around. considering indies below themselves.

that's what I mean.

Thats sad. I hope I'm not seen like that while I do feel that more people would benefit from joining the factions (at least for a while) and then (if they want) spreading the wings on their own

Why take things away from one group of people, making it worse for them, and give them to another group of people?
Why not just give to the 'another group of people' and leave the first group alone?

No one can cry about losing anything.
Independents could be and are already rewarded for good roleplay, in special RP requests.
Adding things in for factions will both increase their membership and make them just a little bit more fun.

Yes and yes.

Official faction or not, this is a video game. I might play a faction leader but the only difference between me, or you, and some new guy zipping his Rhino full of Helium around Penn is just a few hundred hours of wasted time getting to know the local climate.

Be kind, be considerate, be respectful. Best way to ensure quality is to give it and demonstrate what it's all about.

Elitism according to Wikipedia:

"Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight or those who view their own views as so; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern. Alternatively, the term elitism may be used to describe a situation in which power is concentrated in the hands of the elite."

Anyhoozle, back to part of Ivan's response:

Now what cripples rp? Elitism, or people thinking they're "smarter" than rest of "stupid sheep" that try to roleplay and do it by the rules

Your definition of elitism actually fits anyone with a "better than thou" attitude, be that person an indie or player faction member.

Now to the question of what factors ruin the rp experience for players. Here are some answers for your perusal, in no particular order:

a) players who don't bother to acquaint themselves with the rules before they jump into the game.
b) players with a weak grasp of English.
c) players, who take pride in dictating another player's rp. And have the gall to say it's for the good of the community.
d) players who have a predjudice against new players and new ideas for doing things.
e) players who put rp before sportmanship.
f) impatient and somewhat selfish veterans who don't really feel compelled to help new players out. Less noobies plugging up the bandwith, more slots for good rpers like us.
g) ships and equipment so exhorbitantly priced, it will take you eons to trade for the funds to rp the character you really want to.

What can we do as individuals and as a community to enhance the gaming experience for the people that play here? Maybe some of the changes needed start with us as individuals.

Giving me all your money would make the place a whole lot better. I'm serious!

But yeah, things are so screwed up right now I can't even find a place to start... What everyone already said is right, really. Treat others like you would like to be treated and stuff....

The betterment of Discovery, the mod and the community will not start in new farfetched models, mechanisms or rules; but in you yourself.

' Wrote:Also Nooblet, you know that roleplaying indies are great, and they contribute to roleplay, and they should be rewarded too. But not all indies do that, I'ld say about 30% of them does. Why should others have same benefits that you have?

I am not for factions having ultimate power, actually if all people would have to join the factions to get most benefits and indies became extinct, i would probably have the badass indie junker and proved that things can be done without faction help. I'm like that, I like challenges.
But there are indies that don't want to join factions because they feel like they will lose - and while they might lose few mil for an hour of trade, they would gain roleplay.

and it hurts me that they ignore that. they think 20mil a week is more worth than roleplaying and contributing to roleplay.

Considering your extremist viewpoints in the previous incarnate of this thread please accept my apologies for not believing you.

I do not want to join certain factions for various reasons; ranging from time constraints, to the leader and their competence. There are reasons people have for not joining factions, and it is about time people realise that forcing them to join by coercion is simply not going to work.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.
