For Our Family and Country
The history behind the formation of the Outcast Secret Force [OSF]

The Outcasts have always been one to place very high value on their security. Any Corsair or good smuggler that has been in their space can tell you that. With a family and product like theirs, who can blame them? What people most people dont know is how they go about doing this. Secret, underhandedness, sabotage, and general clandestine operation and not things widely advertised, and if you see it, chances are that you are already or soon to be a dead carcass floating in space. This is the way the Dons want it, and so it shall be.

The year 812 AS was full of turmoil and bickering among the Outcasts. It was nothing close to shattering the nation, but enough to cause bickering among the Dons. While all were in agreement that new security measures should be taken, Don David of the Narvaez Cartel was perhaps the most vocal on the issue. While others were for forming squadrons within the old house division such as the 66th, 101st, and even some from the 202nd, Don David wanted to from a new wing for these operations. After much debate among the Dons, a compromise was reached, partially because of opportunity, partially because of appeasement, mostly to keep the families together.

As luck would have it a Bretonian battleship class vessel was able to be salvaged at a mere sixth of the cost of actually building one. After being salvaged, towed back to Outcast space, refitted, and updated it was commissioned as the Fantasia. It was a fine vessel and served Malta valiantly for several years. Many Corsair Destroyers and Gunboats fell from her cannons and fighter wings fled in her presence. Her crew received so many kill in one patrol (actual number classified but speculated to include at least 4 cruiser class and 1 Carrier class) that all of the Dons gave personal thanks to the senior staff and crew personally at a public ceremony upon Fantasia's return to Malta.

But then the internal bickering began again, and with the death of Don Solona matters only got worse. Once again, Don David saw his chance. Not wanting to take the limelight in the Malta Political scene, but still wanting power, he endorsed Don Benitez, while starting his master plan for ultimate control.

By the early 815 AS all was in place for his plan to take the security of the Outcast nation into his own hands. All he had to do now was wait for the right time to deploy his new squadron, and it came a lot sooner than expected.

After only 10 days it came. A strong Corsair fleet launched a surprise attack on Onicron-85 in an effort to destroy the shipyards and set Outcast fleet production back almost 50 years. While they fought bravely, the Corsair were no match for the might of the Fantasia, and they lost over 5 bomber wings, numerous fighter wings, 2 Destroyers and 5 gunboats in the span of 30 minutes. In this time however a massive assault in the Omicron Eta system resulted in the lost of 5 destroyer class vessels, many fighter and bomber wings, and the Battleship Legacy. The Dons we unsure what to do, and Don David took his chance. He nominated that the Fantasia be folded back into the service of the 101st along with her crew and staff. Since the shipyards at Corsica were largely undamaged, It was possible to assign a destroyer class vessel to the service of the OSF, and that is what happened - at least until a suitable replacement could be constructed and launched. This effectively put the future of the OSF out of sight and out of mind, and it was soon forgot about by the council. Don David began building up the personnel he needed for his personal secret squadron.

Being a Don gives you access to the best pilot and crew that come out of the Malta Military Education Complex, and Don David was one to use his privileges. He had been building up his own personal crew for a small defense fleet for some years. He had never given up on his first idea, just went about it in a more clandestine way. With profits from his personal plantations, and high influence within the Malta Council, he placed many expensive bribes, and paid out much more in hush money. Using a technique known as 'orangemailing', he managed to get Don Benitez' indirect approval for the soon-to-be commissioned MNS Capriccio to be staffed with his personal crew. At the same time, he had already assigned 4 fighter and 2 bomber wings from the since retired 202nd remnants to his command. All was in place for the formation of the Outcast Secret Force, except one thing - his senior crew. His list of final candidates sat before him.

For captain he picked a promising LT Commander from the 66th Assault Squadron named Arturo "Ace" Benitez (no relation to the Malta Don Benitez). Described as extremely competent with a strong desire to make and keep Malta safe, Ace seemed like the perfect candidate for the job. Having flown Destroyers for nearly 2 decades and a Battle cruiser for another 6, his qualifications were not to be questioned.

For XO he picked closely trusted family member to keep an eye on his newest and most prized possession, Kirk David. His command list within the 66th was well documented. Having recently lost his destroyer in a raid in a remote Omega system, he was currently without command, and unlikely to get another one anytime soon.

Engineer was perhaps the easiest choice - son and star pupil of Ibrahim Casse (THE master ship engineer at Corsica), Ishmael Casse. Having recently graduated near the top of his engineering and design class at MMEC, his senior thesis was titled "Future Military Engineering and its Applications to Clandestine Operations and Warfare". Given the nature of the new squadron, Don David had no choice but to choose him.

Tactical officer Chris Martin had been raised on the plantation and knew how to use a gun. Naturally, this transferred over into his desire to defend Malta, and he registered and at age 18 he enlisted into the MMEC. He was generally known to be an idiot, plainly put, but no one could shoot as well as him. Not since the formation of the MMEC had anyone shot as well as him - he broke every record for marksmanship and accuracy that they kept track of, and his loyalty to his comrades were without question.

Navigator was something not to be found from within the MMEC, but from someone who has actually flow to and from those places. For this, Don David contacted the most efficient and profitable smuggler from SpaceAce Enterprises. The CEO responded very positively, by transferring his personal navigator, Helmsman John Richter, to the Dons service on the first Malta-bound transport. John was known for his ability to fly an advanced train through the Badlands of New York on thrusters only - he did this to keep his low profile and not attack police. This alone pleased the Don, and this alone is why he asked for John.

Don David called a meeting among the Dons, and the Dons only. No military, no council members, no press. He revealed his personal fleet. At first the other Dons were furious, they had not been told this and at first thought it was the cause for his execution. Did he plan to overthrow the council, or worse? Don David explained that the purpose of such a fleet was to prevent the kinds of attacks that occurred in 815, and had they listened to him years ago, they might not be in this position. Seeing his true nature (not wanting to take over Malta, but to truly make her safe) they gave him his blessing. All agreed, in a moment of mutual clarity, that the newly formed Outcast Secret Force should remain away from the prying eyes of the council, and where it could do the most good - in an environment unregulated by the daily politics of the council chambers and in space under Independent command.

Only in this way can she truly start to make Malta safe - and this is where her story begins.

"better remember that talking to them about it should be done before you go off and report them. - a sanction often hurts more than it helps - assistance and understanding can - in a lot of situations be much more beneficial. "
