I don't think you're being fair here, you're asking people to put on hold real world social and political developments to keep the standard rather than evolving to suit their needs. If they can get a leg up through diplomacy? Do it, keep doing it, strengthen and evolve.
As a result the opposing faction(s) will need to do the same, and as such to a limited extent we have a political environment that may or may not shift with the tides of trade and war. Something I think is sadly lacking from Discovery. I know where you're coming from, I'm not trying to quash you or your feelings on this matter in anyway shape or form but personal gripes with the possible outcomes that reflect onto us and think in a more grand view of things, in fact I should say on a more political and global scale.
As for Tenacity's comment, I think you're wrong. Enemies need not stay enemies unless prompted by a mod change, if that's the rule then we has independent and autonomous factions have no real position, we simply act a role and maintain it as it has always be, and quite honestly that leads to stagnation, at least that's my view on things. If we don't have at least a minimal dynamic political environment I don't see the point of even having PC faction diplomatic relations, we can simply follow the ques of an NPC patrol.
Laowoi we should be stuck with what the NPCs do continuasly? If that were the case half my characters wouldn't exist. And this server would be MUCH less interesting.
I see your point, but PLAYERS should be allowed to move the game forward, because NPCs never will.
Laowai, I would agree if the GMG wasn't an entity based entirely around profit rather than shows of force. It's a logical thing to happen in a three way war, sooner or later two sides decide they're going to get rid of the more troublesome one and settle their differences later. This of course doesn't mean the GMG will be best buddies with Outcasts, just that there will be no shooting each other up. As long as both sides of the fence honour the agreement that is.
Funny how everyone had a good old moan/flame when the Brotherhood was on "friendly(ish)" terms with BSG/CR (IMG). Everyone is all for it when it benefits them but when it doesn't there all against it, what do you call that? hypocrisy anyone?.
Its really quite funny in a sad kinda way. :/
Edit:
Let me add this I don't really care if you two don't shoot each other but when you start attacking corsairs in unison then its taking it to far, and also GMG getting backhanders from the sale of cardi, wtf?.
The Outcasts deal with Bretonia was far fetched to me but GMG aswell?..
Personaly i think GMG and OC relations shouldnt exist. But i think all those who point the fingers at the Outcast alliances all the time need to re think what they are saying. There are LOADS!! of OOC alliances on this server. Corsairs and IMG for one Corsairs and Order. OC and Britonia. They all are as bad as each other. Lawfull and and unlawfulls together. No theres more than just the OC relations. If one gets looked at we should look at them all
The Gas Miners Guild has proven on many occasions it conducts its business for self interest. Proof of this is its past history dealing with the Corsairs and its Artifacts. The GMG actually shipped artifacts into the houses making profit. Well the Corsairs became a little greedy and began to double cross the Gas Miners Guild on artifact shipments, thus the guild declared them hostiles. Shocked? Another example of this would be its secret under the table allliance with Blood Dragons. Why does it aid the Blood Dragons? Because Kusari is corrupted? No ladies and gentlemen! that is not the answer. The guild funds and trains blood dragons to strike back at Samura for urging Kusari to make war taxes during the 80 Years War.
Note: The 80 Years War happened over 200 years ago.
Now as present time continues with players in discovery new history is written. The recent Corsair attack in Sigma-13 ( http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18383 ) caused the Gas Miners Guild to retaliate ( http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18399 ) . How does the guild has this month strength to reach this far? Well in player constructed background of the guilds present time. It has turned to its allies for joint military cooperation and training, mainly from the IMG seeing as the Zoners have a complete economic alliance with the GMG.
Continueing. The guild though really beyond its elder strength in younger times against Rheinland, has not the strength to battle against both Outcasts and Corsairs. Best decision for survival? With the recent cease-fire/if its our concern for security we may help. The GMG is asking the enemy near home's armada to "Hold your fire, we can't hold both of you and we face a common threat" . Is this asking for an alliance because we declare a cease fire? NO.
Your profiting off of cardamine shipments? Why not its passing through our system often and we require a benefit for transports risking mining operations. We did artifacts now we are having transporters pay us a fee to traffic safely.
How does it effect our relationship with the Kusari Naval Forces and Kishiro? Really, when did they know about it? From what is going on currently they don't have a clue we are funding blood dragons. How could they possibley know about our business in the Sigmas and Omicrons? Well they wouldn't would they? In fact its been a long time since we have seen a visit from our kusarian brothers. Kusari loves its monopoly on H-fuel, and if they become hostile with GMG where will they get it? Take it by force! Rheinland tried it, and they became the example.
GMG on self interest? self preservation? or are half of them baked up on Artifacts and Cardamine! I'm not sure now adays they have been seen talking to machines(harvesters) and Rheinland rebles(VF).
Just to defend my own strange politics, well...the treaty with the mollies...essentially splits them into two groups, mollies who like and mollies who don't. As for the Outcast neutrality, well, we gained a new enemy in disco, the KNF, so I thought it balanced things. I admit, the Libertonians should be getting rather pissy with us, but I'm not sure that expecting anything like that from the Liberty lawfuls is smart.
I have seen that its very easy to get friends, but much harder to make an enemy in disco.
I am also hoping to see some wilde activity in regards to cambridge.
And, btw, I will continue to completely disregard any position involving LAWFUL vs UNLAWFUL, on the basis that I believe every group has its own laws, and obey them cleanly. Its a very, very basic perspective to split everyone into two groups.
The Outcast/Bretonia agreements are under the table. In RP, they are only rumoured and denied by the government, much like any friendship between the Kusari and Corsairs (which is rather believable, considering that the government-friendly Hogosha are Corsair-allied.).
The Molly/Bretonia peace treaty is reminiscent of real world politics. Just fine.
GMG/Outcasts... not great... but mostly because it is hard to roleplay gas miners properly when we have no ships that can mine gas. If it were sorted so that the GMG had a reason to be invading Outcast space for gasses...
Corsairs/IMG, I'm not a fan of... the IMG are supposed to a less-militant version of the Mollys, really. They were formed in the same struggle and were supposed to maintain friendly relations.
Blood Dragons and GMG working together under the counter is fine, but Blood Dragons and Outcasts annoys me, to be honest. They wouldn't be hostile, true, but...
