I have an ATI card and rolled back the driver version to the last one--not the current one.

One of my windows updates automatrically installed the new ATI card update and I had exactly the same problem.

I rolled back the update then when prompted for it again checked the "do not show this update in future" box box on the "custom" updates options.

Problem solved (for me).

Quote:Go in to FLMM and restore backups, uninstall Freelancer, reinstall Freelancer, run vanilla Freelancer up until you to get to the main menu, then close the game. Activate Discovery, and play. ^_^
It's not Discovery-related. Same happens in Vanilla. How could I ask if I didn't try this already...

Quote:Maybe putting the card out of PC, setting on-board graphics only in BIOS and checking if the problem remains...
I don't have onboard graphics.

And my DirectX is the latest, don't think it's related to anything.

Ok, nerf it,disable alpha blending, pixel shaders and such. lower resolution, lower refresh rates to 60hz.

From experience on lots of crashing with mods installed, a clean re-install works 9 out of 10 times.

yeah, but 1 out of 10 it's something registry-based.

Igiss, if you are feeling comfortable with this, uninstall FL and then search the registry and delete all Freelancer, FL, Discovery, etc keys.

Did you try with older drivers?
Sometimes, newer does not mean to be better...

For example, in order to play mass effect, i must use the previous ATI drivers, 8.5, as 8.6 will cause the game to crash to desktop.

I've already replied. I've got an absolutely clean FL install separated from the install I use for mods. It crashes as well.

I've got LCD display, refresh is 60 MHz all the time anyway.

Will try registry, will try changing graphic settings of Freelancer.

In case all this doesn't work... You could grab an Old PCI (not Express) Video card to play freelancer. It could do the job. But I don't know how to switch actives video cards without restarting the computer

You can't switch them without a restart and sadly FL setup does not let you choose the rendering device.

Also, where would you find such a thing? :shok:
I'm having difficulties in finding AGP based cards. All i can find is PCI-E

some PCI cards still exist, Not so long ago I saw one sold in a Future Shop (like Best Buy (Computer store, big ones...)

Otherwise, just go On EBAY

EDIT: A game would normally chose the active video card, not the inactive one
