On the topic of leading factions...

Xoria - LH
AC - RepEx
Hoodlum - IND
Caylith - Angels
Kane - Phantoms
Korrd - AW
Nightfall - 101st
BulldogNK - NovaPG
Majkp - TBH
Igiss - N/A
Wolfpack - Bs

So from that list the only ones that don't/haven't run any factions during adminship are Igiss and Wolfpack. So surely the new admins shouldn't have to give up faction leadership as the above admins have managed quite well?

Correction, Wolfpack actualy created Bs| and he also lead the SF a few times when Lancer was away (though I guess that is not officialy leading the faction)

- applicant must be willing to give up faction leadership in order to become an unbiased admin

Does not say

-applicant must give up faction leadership in order to become an unbiased admin.

Personally I read it as "if faction leadership is getting in the way of admining, then you must be willing to prioritize".

After all those who become Admins must put the server before their own faction. So far everyone seems to have amanaged fine, but that doesn't mean everybody will.

I dunno, guys. The fact is, even if it might not be fair at all to the new applicants, it may be a very safe measure...but, then, on that note, it doesn't take leading a faction to be devoted to it, or biased towards it. Leading a faction does mean you've already got a rather large mess on your plate already, and added to the stress of being an admin, you may be driven inactive.

I'm setting on the fence on this issue, and I really don't know whether to argue for fairness, for safety, or for the fact that people who lead factions already do put in extra hours not playing, because they care for the community. I don't even know which side of the fence that last one is.

The reason I vocally said 'no' is because someone did ask me to put in an app. And, if I were an admin, I'd go harder on the BLS and LPI than anything. But there's a problem, I lead not one but two factions, though the LPI does lead itself, kind of. Like a runaway train going off a cliff.

If I were approached and offered it, maybe. Maybe. But no way in hell am I putting in an app.

There's some famous quote about reluctant leaders somewhere, but I'm too lazy to go find it.

I personally think the best way forward is for the current team to choose their own candidates, as they currently do, and then sounding those folks out. Maybe asking for nominations every now and then, or applications even.

I've never had any worries about the new admins that have been appointed while I've been here. They've all proven themselves to be fair and level headed.

I don't think faction leadership is any more of an issue than faction membership either. No-one suitable for an admin position would put their own faction first anyway.

Yes , I vaguely remember the one you mean and I agree . In my experience , someone who is really ramming for a position of power is not often a good choice .

Nominations occasionally would be a good idea , including looking at who's nominating , not just who they've nominated .

Heavy responsibility , being the final arbiter over something that means so much to so many.... good luck .

I agree, the hunger people have for power over a large community is concerning, but I don't think there is many here in this community that would put its existence in danger.

As far as responsibility goes, it is very heavy. We are the largest Freelancer community known to planet earth after all. A lot here would jump at the responsibility, and opportunity as we have seen in this thread. :)
I egarly await those who are assigned their new position.

Good luck to all, for what its worth.
