There's a question that's been nagging me for quite some time now.

Can RP stories/biography's etc take place or make reference to places outside of Sirius?
IE a new system is found past the 'borders' of Sirius in the story.

Or not neccesarily outside of Sirius but in a system that currently does not exist in 4.84? (With an explanation of course)

I've a story that I very much want to write but I don't want to tread on any toes if I do.

you can use systems that are already here but arent well known.

Using places outside of sirius is sketchy, since any character you play will likely be from one of the major sirius houses - or be an outcast/corsair.

For example, my 'wilde' character's story (which was never accepted, unfortunately) started with the main character and an assistant doing research/excavation on a daam k'vosh city. That city was located on the 'unknown' planet in the chester system, way out on the edge of bretonian space. Nothing is there really, so it's open to new RP.

Good point but Igiss said that those empty systems would be filled in by the next version:(
Wouldn't have any issue using them but when the next version comes around and it isn't the same as my story refers to it might be odd.
Thanks though, I think that's what I'll do.

I see no point in creating another threat to ask something that has a connection to the head-line of this topic. Thus I'll ask some questions here.

I'm interested in knowing how much of the stories are actually being looked at and discussed.

I mean , what happens if say someone makes up a good story for an exotic role in this world , take nomad for instance. If he is denied the Nomad ID , what happens to his story ? Is it denied aswell ?

I'm interested in this , because I have some plans and I wish to know how do people know wich stories to take seriosly?

I would say in that case, Eternal, that it'd be best to send the story to the Keepers (or whoever) and get their approval first.

As for the topic, just click the second link in my sig and read.

Thanks , Zapp

This is actually what I've been hoping for. The cominity chooses the stories and depending on wheater they like them or not they separate them from the rest.

Well , I've got alot more work to do , but it's nice to see people are interested in the RP of others.

Well, nobody is stopping anyone from posting a story here, be it even remotely related to Freelancer. After all the subtitle to "Stories" section says "Role-playing stories not directly related to factions and server gameplay". I suppose this also includes alternate variants, alternate timelines, et cetera, basically stories that are, like said, can be not related to server gameplay, more or less global storyline so to say. However it is likely that "alternate stories" will not affect server storyline and/or gameplay, it's like individual spin-offs, or shall we say stories inspired by Freelancer universe or something like that.

Well , I asked that because my main purpose is to creat my own gameplay / my own charecter with his own view of the world and with his own goals. But , I'm also a very pationed sci-fy writer so I'm curios on exactly how open the comunity is to RP wich plays an unique role in Discovery ? My main insperation to start writing my story was Mon'Star , so I'm curios on how long it took to accept an independent ( like he is ) into such an exotic role play and possition here.

for the most part, stories are meant to explain things that cannot - or only hardly - be roleplayed ingame. - that is the history of a char ( you don t wanne run around ingame telling every john and jane where you were born and how you grew up ) - yet, it is important to understand what you are now.

so, most stories are totally ooc to know from another players pov - but essential to deal with your char. - in RL, one would easily consider someone "funny" or "strange" - especially when the world was full of rather "special" people like freelancer. - and in RL, one would need consideable time and patience to get to know such people. here in the game, we take the cheap and short route to simply write up a vita of such a person. - and its totally legit - cause who wants to spend their times asking ppl around for their history in an inRP way.

then there are stories that justify stuff - usually stuff that is out of the ordinary. that starts with the simple "i stole it story" which can for all intents and purpose be quite interesting and not at all simple. - up to stories that try to explain why the player is a half-nomad, quarter-god and quarter-sheep.

another part are stories that describe not the past, but the present - especially events that actually happened... sometimes like a dairy, sometimes like a novel. - those stories are often written to explain and describe further on. - the ingame engine can only assist us in RPing so much... sometimes the player feels that what he did and all requires a few more words than one can squeeze into 1.5 chatlines. ( reports to others especially )

the last part are stories that are written just cause the player likes to write stories. short stories .. that are character related and maybe event related, but mostly there to entertain the reader.

for example, i don t write much about my chars. - they are very solid when it comes to being out of the ordinary - there is little to explain about their doings. i try to focus on how i transport my chars ingame - which is - from my pov the most important part ( or else i wouldn t do it ). - for others ... the more important part might be to write about their chars. especially when the game engine simply doesn t offer such individual chars. ( or what would you write when you RPed a half god. - would you tell the common LPI "listen mate, i m a half god, so leave me alone" - the LPI would say "yea alright, and i am Abraham Lincoln and you ll still pay the parking fine for parking right in front of the manhatten docking ring" )

Indeed , thank for the quick reply thats expains some stuff to me.

But what makes people to actually accept your RP ? I mean , I've tested some sides of the charecter I want to be , but there are close to no people who actually understand where I'm going and what I mean.

I've even received a PM from a Keeper , saying that there is no powerplay in the system. The term "powerplay" is not quite known to me and thus I started re-thinking my charecter. In the end I line up what I say in game with what my actuall charecter would do. And since she would do just that , I'm not exactly sure how to RP her. Actually , thats not entirely correct , I'm rather sure what I want her to be and how to RP 'er , but unsure of how other people will react to my role play. Since I'm not a person who thinks small , I don't exactly fit in the common faction member profile , thats why I creat complexity.

So my question was actually. What does it take to have your RP approved ?
