Designation: CLN Normandy
Class: Penance
Crew Compliment: 150
Built: 742 AGS, Planet Marne.
Captain: Claude Vasseur

History

The Normandy was designed as an attack ship, using speed and agility over raw firepower or heavy armour to support the fleet it was assigned too. Originally stationed alongside the battleship CLN Jeanne d'Arc and its other escort as part of a Council spearhead, designed to strike at weak Royalist targets within Gallia while the war raged on.

The ships systems are fairly dated, using salvaged hardware from Royal Navy ships alongside newer components and whatever else was available to the Council at the time. As a result of this the interior of the ship is a hodge-podge of wires and mismatched panels, its not a tidy ship by any stretch of the imagination but it remains functional.

The Normandy saw much action during the war, from raiding convoys to direct strikes against the Kingdom itself. Its last engagement against the Kingdom saw the Battlegroup lost, a strike against a seemingly routine convoy in Burgundy turned out to be a trap. The Battlegroup was ambushed by a superior Royalist force and the majority of its escort were destroyed, the Normandy attempted to cover the retreat of the Jeanne d'Arc through a nearby jumphole, following it through under heavy fire from the enemy forces. Once reaching the other side, the Amethyste was nowhere to be found and only the Normandy remained, heavily damaged and limping back to Marne for repairs.

The Battleship was never found, after considerable searches on both sides of the jumphole no debris field was discovered and no distress signal was received. The search was called off and the ship was marked as missing in action.

Since the disasterous strike and the formation of the Confederacy, the Normandy had been assigned to simple border patrols out of any real danger. With the declaration of war and subsequent invasion from Kusari, the dated ship was deployed to Languedoc to assist with defending Gallia from the Kusarian Menance.
