Besides, this entire restocking thing did happen once during this entire event. So I believe getting that worked up over it is certainly not productive.

It's equally annoying if it's done once or ten times. The exception is that people just stop logging if it's done too many times, which is why I'm upset about it. Every single time I see it I'm afraid more people will start doing it and by extension the entire area becomes completely dead.

And yeah, it is on me if I let the man escape, but it's also on them if I also escape, return with full bots, and proceed to slaughter everyone else who are near dry. Restocking is effectively the same thing as adding another man to your team, because you wasted the enemy teams time in drying you the first time. If the player is significant enough to the fight (ie if haste randomly decides to go restock every time he's low) then his side will always win. If his side always wins, the enemy side never logs. Do you see the problem?

"lmao its part of the game xXdDDD" doesn't work. 15 solaris battleships shooting one snub is also part of the game, Do you also think that's perfectly fair and should be acceptable? Come on.

Sure, bad and unfun encounters can always happen.
And they have happened plenty enough in this event.
It seems few people have let themselves be discouraged by that however and kept logging and going for fights, giving us a nice week of activity.

Edit: Supposed to be Stuffz account

Yes.

I agree that its on the other guy if they let you escape and you make it out legally, restock, and come back. That used to be considerd skill. It gave the battles immersion, as you could successfully bug out, restock, repair, take a quick break, all while knowing others were keeping up a fight. Then you got back in. It was always kinda weak to make people feel bad for successfully escaping and returning. People get that sour, like their time was so wasted, by having that kill denied? Thats all you log for?

People should be fighting over principles instead of just points or kills. Why do people go into battle in real life even if the odds arent even? Or even if they are certain to lose? Necessity. Now since people don't need to play, they want to, we make needs out of the game.

So make these scenarios about who keeps the systems, or break them up into segments and open it up so each side can fight over control of junctions, planets and systems in general. If you really care about your side, be happy you won the battle, even if you don't make every kill.

Another war is gone 100% full arcade and is going to waste, not even a year after the Gallic war. Were any of the criticisms of the Gallic War considered? Well I see a lot of skill at various ship classes, but no real tactics being able to be applied. That could easily change!

Remember the Battle of Thermopolae, the Battle of the Bulge, or the Alamo. All battles where an outnumbered force fought to the death, regardless of certain defeat, to help achieve a larger goal.

In freelancer that translates into being willing to show up to help defend a planet or base or system because you actually chose a side inrp and accept your rp will be that you fought and lost in an actual situation. The other side RP's their actual win and light (noble) resistance. It wouldn't always be that bad, but to get folks out and fighting for tough causes, you have to open the chance for them to win at all. These wars would be better fought, clearly won or lost, and the plot moved along to the next one. If player driven, at the battles drag out due to interest and activity, let it roll on.

But you guys are fighting for nothing and getting angry over someone escaping is what drives away players, or worse, makes them think they're supposed to let themselves go down for someone else, and not fully try.

A war going 100% arcade in an arcade space shooter? How dare the GM set up an event like that

Last words are for fools who have not yet said enough.

This is a game. You can fully try and still think about the people shooting you because at the end of the day, it's a game. The same argument could be applied to people who are really good at the game: "I'm going to restock and hug caps because otherwise I'm a free kill lmao better not give people the satisfaction xXDDD" < nobody likes that attitude. Successfully running away to a base after all your teammates are dead is different to restocking midfight. Even combat docking is sad. It's gratifying to kill someone because you worked towards something, only for it to be taken away from you at the last second. A guy altf4-ing midfight in For Honor is funny at first but it gets old fast. I can't say that its totally wasted time since at least to me, most of the fun comes from the actual shooting, but I can imagine some people mostly caring about the end result, ie the kill at the end.

It's just a matter of caring about other players. We're all here to play a game and enjoy ourselves. There's a reason it's generally frowned upon when a cap interrupts a perfectly good snubfight and just ruins it. There's a reason other caps stay out of snubfights. One group of people doesn't give a shit about other peoples' enjoyment, and the other group does. Guess which of the two types of player combat docks, selfnukes, restocks, ganks unnecessarily, etcetera.

It's not difficult to play this game without being awful to everyone around you.

This is still a roleplay server to an arcade space shooter, and I can agree with his point. Mindless pvp is nowhere near as engaging and fun as pvp with a roleplay backdrop. It's sad that people don't simply raid like in the old LivsRhein days in Texas and that you need an event for it, but it brings activity. If I wanted to pvp for the sake of pvp I'd go to conn.
