That makes sense Korrd. The whole reason I brought this topic up is because I was annoyed that I couldn't intervene under server rules when terrorist forces were at work :0)

Why should you intervene?

There currently is no player faction RPing as the liberty house goverment, so why would anyone want to defend liberty?

I've been in systems 'controlled' by a player house faction (as a phantom) and never had to defend myself against the faction members in that system, and yes I flew right past them with several police patrols trying to chew my butt into scrap.

Sometimes I like to be able to blast NPCs without worrying if a player is gonna come along and shoot me in the back, that is why I occasionally hit NY.

If what happened in NY occurred everyday then yeah I admit that there would be a problem.

I've seen pirates/terrorists working together with lawful faction members to cream a BS patrol or just randomly blasting BHG patrols into dust infront of manhattan.

Manhattan, and NY, are like a bar open to all where players who are in different factions can sit and talk or make friends with people where their faction RP usually demands they shoot them on sight.

If someone logs on and decides they want to be a pirate/terrorist they can launch from manhattan and start getting the right rep straight away.

However with your idea they'd have to go to colorado, california or texas to do so, where they can be hit by stray fire from players dueling/fighting etc.

Plus you can't enforce this rule without watching what everyone does while in NY, so unless we set up some kind of server police, which wolf has already veto'd on at two occasions, I can't see how we can enforce this rule without getting loads of threads about who did, or did not, break the rule.

I think we have enough flame threads and posts without coming up with rules to create more.

marauder: Your "why should you care?" attitude towards this is exactly what I oppose. That's why I chose a lawful faction for my primary characters, because there's simply too many pirates/terrorists having their way. I will not jump 8 systems just to tackle some rascal that happens to be pestering Liberty NPC's but when there are 20 players online and 15 of them are in NY while several players are actively terrorizing it, well as a "good guy" I just get that defensive instinct :0)

Hey guys ... Thought Korrd's answer had sorted it out ... Its actually very rare for the
Phantoms, and lets be fair thats who we are talking about here isn't it, to be around NY
at any time as it is most uncomfortable and not much RP potential for PvP.
We just happened to all be around last night because of the ID situation and I suspect
our intentions were yet again, flagged by the dump. So we had a little shoot up ....
What I didn't see was anyone else complaining about the amount of loot that was being
tractored by all and sundry because we couldn't do it ourselves. That was why there
were so many other people there.
Sorry Badger when we come back to Bretonia you will have your chances to defend again ...
Till then its the only place we have to let off a bit off steam without having to
watch the radar.
And where are all the Pirates now anyway ... The Phantoms are the only active bad guy
group on the server at the moment ... So we seem to get attacked here and in game.
Its very easy now for all traders to make a living just having to avoid us only ...
Come on guys, let someone else take the heat for a while ... Pirates unite.

My 'why should you care' attitude is because no-one else seems bothered by it.

Pirates and terrorists never get there way, otherwise all transports and trains would be easy to disrupt and have no shields. As it is pirates can't disrupt trains from behind, and most traders make sure that their rep is set so that they never get attacked by NPCs.

The only 'group' getting their own way are traders.

I'm fed up with people complaining about the phantoms.

Lawful players always moan when they are out-numbered by us and only ever, in my experiance, fight us willingly when they out-number us 2 to 1 in capships and thats before you including the horde of gunboats and VHFs.

All phantoms are hated by all lawful NPC factions, we get shot on sight in practically every system by at least one NPC faction.

So why shouldn't we take advantage of the no PvP rule in NY to slaughter the NPCs without getting shot at by players?

No-one complained about the mass of loot floating around, waiting to be tractored in, no-one asked us to stop.

No-one ever, seems, to bother about RP in NY. As I've stated before, NY is the only place I've seen people work together when they usually shoot at each other on sight, because of their factions RP.

Why do you want to stop this?

marauder you're making this far too personal. No-one even had a dig at Phantoms here specifically so there's no need to defend them (I personally think Phantoms are overall the best faction to RP with in-game, so rest assured I hold the whole faction in high regard).

As for letting off steam, it's quite easy to have an unaffiliated character if you feel like bashing some lawfuls with other players from other factions. It's also fairly easy to do in any system besides NY as long as there isn't too many law abiding players in the vicinity.

Anyhow, I have already conceeded and agreed that Korrd's "No RP Obligation" policy is the best idea, meaning everyone is free to let off as much steam as they want and I can still rest easy at night ;0)

That would bring a lot of problems to the server. Like " he killed me in ny and i wasnt further than 10k from ny"
Lets leave the NY rule as it is and add the "no RP obligation" one. That should fix all the present problems.

Guys, i want to remind you all about something.

All Liberty Systems (New York, Colorado, Alaska, Connecticut, Texas, California) are all Admin-Controlled Systems for a reason.

These are "Starter systems" for anyone new to Discovery. SF made these systems *NEUTRAL GROUND* to all existing factions for this very purpose.

Now, as far as players shooting up NPCs, that's fine. it's not PvP per se. but when two players get it on in New York, you got two choices.

1) Take it to connecticut or 2) Get your self booted from the server.

We don't need to complicate things more. IMHO, if a faction is aligned with a certain NPC faction, they should be doing what THEY do, and not interfere with other systems' business (i.e. RM doesn't interfere in Liberty matters, Bretonnia doesn't interfere in RM Matters), etc. Just my opinion.

You'll never see Bs| Attack lawful people in new york, unless they persist in asking for my pilots ;)

I pretty much agree with everything Marauder said here, and Korrd before it. Anywhere else its all shoot on site, noone gets to talk to each other. Pirates/terrorist like attacking BS patrols to tractor generals, captains, and lieutenants. NY has the most patrols. There are usually TWO BS patrols instead of where everywhere else has the usual one.

I completely agree with what he had to say on the subject of people complaining about pirates. Your complaining has made transports and trains nearly unstoppable without a cruiser or bigger. You have everything the way traders want it, so you can get money faster and easier. I personally think people have TOO MUCH money. Trading should be hard without escorts. If a train with no escorts is attacked by a pirate there should be something about a 20/80 percent chance. 20-getting away, 80- getting stopped. Not the 90/10 that it is.

If anything things right now should be made EASIER for pirates, instead of harder for them. Pirating should be hard, but not impossible. Now the only way to take stuff from a train is to kill it before it can get away, because everyone knows they can get away from them without giving up anything.

NPC killing should be allowed for NY whenever. As long as it doesn't 'hurt' the new people it is fine. It might make them think that they can get strong enough to do that in a short time, and get new people to work harder at getting started.
