Never knew you couldn't have a missile deal contact damage...

While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack

' Wrote:the reason it isnt a missile or torpedo weapon is because those are explosive weapons... and explosive weapons have proven to be nearly useless against capships. To even deal shield damage with a torpedo, the explosion radius has to hit the shield generator hardpoint on the target ship - which is usually at the very center of the model, and thus out of explosion range.

Supernova Torps are actually dead useful against vanilla caps. A bomber with dual supernovas can destroy an Osiris in a 'single' shot if it has anything of cap 5 armor or lower, or so I've been informed, this having to do with the damage taking place across multiple components in the same fashion that a well placed cannonball can shred an Eagle.

However, they're a joke when being put up against non vanilla caps or when fired at range due to the poor tracking performance of missiles in addition to being useless against shields.

Can you imagine actually attempting to use a torpedo against a gunboat? I'm a medium skill bomber pilot and I miss 3 shots out of every four with the cannon firing at gunboats as they thrust and spin about the battlefield.

That being said, gunboats are plenty tough as it is. Three of them can rip a solo battleship in half, let alone anything else. For the credits you have to put down to get one up and running, they're a pretty sweet piece of kit.

yea, they dont work well against a capship.

Try setting up a bomber with two nova torpedo launchers or something, that's pretty close to the damage of a single supernova. Fire it at a large cap like a destroyer or cruiser... you wont even scratch their shields.

Yeah, furthermore you've got a really really good chance that you'll just blow yourself up in the process. Supernova torps are the best weapon in the game for killing bombers... Sadly they're only effective against the bomber carrying them

Just a small correction, you mean nova torpedoes, not supernovas =P

Supernovas are the antimatter cannons, Novas are the best explosive ordnance you can get.

EDIT:

As to being able to '1 shot' an osiris with two nova torps... not gonna happen.

The only way that's possible is if you get the osiris' shields down first. Nova torpedoes wont be able to hit the shield generator of the ship, so you'd have to rely on standard shieldbusters to drain his shields, and chances are he'd kill you long before you got the battleship grade shields depleted =P

People get confused sometimes when you say nova torps.

Yes, of course if it's shields are down. Flying a bomber with dual supernovas is a sort of kamikaze move that can net a messy but quick kill on unshielded battleships.

In real life Destroyers are less well armed than Cruisers also when I said strengthen cruisers slightly I'm more thinking of how weak they are compared to Battleships actually and all I would do is make the shields a bit better I think.

As for the Gunboats energy recharge I recently bought a Destroyer myself and I can fire all normal turrets with no energy loss so that's not a balance issue they are equal in that regard besides with 2 cerbs on a Gunboat the energy drains in seconds and that is a necessity for gunboats without the forward gun.

Gunboats well piloted should be a threat to Cruisers but also cruisers well piloted should be a threat to Battleships that just isn't the case in my experience.

Another problem is battlecruisers. It looks like they are specifically designed to PWN normal cruisers. Some cruisers are actually less agile then battlecruisers.

hmm...being more powerful then cruisers and destroyers they should "pwn" them

if i am not mistaken (and i am not), we have 3 Bcruisers...Lib BC, IMG Albie and BHG BC...and they are all slower then slowest Cruiser (that being RH cruiser)...

I know but it's just a little too much.

This is exactly what I mean. Some cruisers and dessies can use their speed to their advantage when fighting battlecruiser. RH cruiser (I haven't tested all of them so I really don't know if there are any other) seems not to have this capabilty
