Waiting for the good old "I RP with guns." line. Any second now.

Some players want to fight, some to RP. For me, i really don't like the restriction thing:`don't type that in the local chat, don't type this in the system chat...put here // as this is OORP and those things

Arcanna is right.

Those who are serious about writing role play are doing it on forums anyway where it is kept and readable by whoever wants to read it. I think many of the restrictions in the game itself had their purpose back when the server was more populated and people were sqeezed into a smaller number of systems but now the mod has outgrown those restrictions. Insisting on keeping them just makes this place feel like it being designed for a particular few and the rest have to either put up with it or go away and if that's the case, they might as-well make the server private and only hand out passwords to the people they want to play with.

On an unrelated topic, why tf did they have to massacre cargo NPC's? All the NPC transports carry oxygen, water, other dirt cheap crap or nothing at all. Like why? Where are the ore transports, diamonds, etc etc? Bring back cargo piracy.

Hey there folks, i've been back on this game / server the last couple of days and here's my 2 cents...

The feeling of fun is still there mixed with heavy nostalgia, I can still have a blast with this game, but sadly I think one of the only thing that is crucial and now missing is server population.
It is absolutely no surprise that the player base is much, much lower on the server, after all this game is really old.
At its core, everything is still there to have a good time but I just can't help but to feel emptiness a lot of the time, back in the days you had many opportunities for almost any kind of RP you wanted to do:
House police, piracy, border world, alien, weird sh*ts, trading/mining was more exciting and stressful because you could meet a pirate or an hostile faction at any moment. and often made you feel like having an escort / police nearby was really reassuring.

You could have good RP where ever you wanted and/or good pvp of any kind, pirate vs police , houses war, outcasts invading liberty and most importantly , active players for all of this.

Now that the player base is really low, you kind of have to run after people to have rp/fight. Sometimes in a few hours session you don't see any more than a dozen players and most of the time they are playing by themselves.

I kind of regret that I came back because I got hooked up back in immediately but can't enjoy the game like it was because in discovery, players create the opportunities / content and now I feel like the potential is there but nothing more. What struck me in your post was the fact that a lot of people nowadays really are just going over a really quick rp to jump in a fight immediatly.

Excuse my english please, I just wanted to let you know what I felt trying to get back in the server after many years.

I've recently got into a sort of RP that I didn't try before and I'm enjoying it. I stopped playing my character like they know so much about the galaxy, its systems, its people, notorious chars etc. and started to think about how little the average discovery character would probably know or how niche the knowledge is. It is nice to play a character who would be amazed at the sight of some Tau system and its inhabitants, learning about people, factions, and their intentions. I won't play like "of course I know who Anna Heinrich is" "Oh, that's an Outcast!" No, right now I'll try to get to know who that is or what that faction is. This leaves a lot more room for people to explore the thought that went into the characters they are facing as long as they actually get to introduce them to you, influence you, maybe use you for their own good.

So my very small advice that might give you a reason to RP more is to play a character in the attempt to know little. It also has a nice side effect. Other players feel appreciated because you allow their characters to impress yours with more minor things. "Oh, you visited Omicron Gamma? Awesome, tell me more!". Most people like to talk about themselves and what they created, they're proud of it. Part of this requires you to swallow pride and be able to play a character that isn't necessarily the best, strongest, or coolest.

Hope y'all find some inspiration out there.

My only interest in Discovery currently is acquiring new players.

During my advertising endeavours, I've read on YouTube + Reddit that people steer clear of Discovery as they think it is too RolePlay strict.

I disagree - You only need to avoid OORP chat and engaging others at random. That's literally it.

The rest of the rules can be learnt when and if you take interest in specific factions/locations.

Man did you put the hammer on the nail with this. I was chasing traders around on a random Freelancer ID'd Tiger Shark asking people for an escort or a scouting job. NOBODY wanted to hire me as an escort. Like bruh, you're playing an online role play game, even if you know you aren't gonna encounter any threats I figure you'd still enjoy the company, doing a bit of chit chat instead of flying alone in silence all by yourself ya know but no, that's what those people do and I get that maybe they don't want to role play but there is no other place for them to play Freelancer but what I don't get is why play an online game if you don't intend to interact with people? Ironically, the same people that refuse to use any sort of protection for their expensive ore cargos are the same people crying about pirates in the game like lmfao bruh you can't have it both ways.
