Bloody knew it Big Grin

I always felt like when I log one unlawful faction I keep running into people and then another they avoid me. Figured must be coincidence/house. And when e.g. Fleur/Royalists started we got 6 in a row within an hour because nobody knew us.

I mean...fair - at least people don't avoid pirates as default because of few 5-15 mill or dai bad apples.

Well I haven't logged in months, haven't bothered with the last update. I won't be logging until a new system is adopted to ensure fairness and a bare minimum player driven story/effort.

I don't know if it should really be called "keeping tabs of people". Avoiding things/people you had past negative interactions with and therefore expect future negative interactions with is something everyone does more or less naturally.

That is, unless the alleged "negative interaction" is something one secretly or subconsciously enjoys for one reason or another. Often, the reason is to have something to gossip about. Some people have this strange thing going where they seek out individuals and factions ingame, just so they can bond with their friends talking about how horrible those "others" are. They also tend to demand that "the others" make their experience enjoyable by paying up or dying or groveling, while they themselves do absolutely nothing to make the encounter enjoyable for the other side. In those cases, the unrealistically high standards that are unlikely to be met are really just a shared excuse for lowering the standards for one's own behavior towards those who don't meet them.

The human brain evolved in conditions where bonding over a shared enemy was more rewarding than bonding over a shared friend, which explains a lot of behaviors we see in environments where people... how to call it... "act purely on instinct and with little self consciousness"?

It's an unfortunate thing that we've been forced to do to maintain our members. I have seen so many people leave only because of bad experiences. Come to think of it, I don't know of anybody who has left Discovery because of the mod itself. Of the people who left because of pirates, some of the reasons include the "give money or die" lines only, pirating in places that don't make sense (right outside of a major shipyard and Battleship in New York makes 0 sense), and Discord logging. There's one system in particular that is known to Discord logging. I have seen people literally change games once I enter the system on a specific tag just to make a kill or pirate and then switch back to whichever game they were playing once the interaction is done.

So yes. Unfortunately, meta must be fought with meta. Not saying that pirates have to be uber creative, but a little bit of flavor goes a long way anymore.

It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.

Yikes.

Well that was a lot of responses, the bulk of them seemed to include lack of player count to begin with though. Unfortunately, I think the only way I can really encourage people to change that is by taking the initiative to log and RP themselves. You might not be RPing with exactly who you want to when you want to and how you want to, but I suppose that bit of selflessness can contribute to the server recovering more players. Today, I think we hit a top of 60 players. That's a lot more than we've had in recent weeks.

I am starting new RP avenues I thought I wouldn't be doing. I don't mind it, hopefully if others can try the same they might find some interesting reason to log in again. PvP wise... uhh I think it's better I just try and avoid that avenue altogether now. A lot of people get upset at other people logging off at the sight of them or whatever, I think it's pretty lame when entire groups do it - but for individuals, I can kinda understand. I'm hoping the more I try to avoid running and gunning on this game the more it will help. Everyone knows it's been my way of playing for a long time, but in recent months I've tried to limit my time on discovery to once a week to therefore limit the amount of times I could potentially scare people off or w/e. (sounds a bit egotistical I know but I don't mean it like that)

Anyways, hope people are willing to log in themselves and try out new things or give interacting with people they otherwise might not have liked a second chance. All I can do is be positive.

It's all hastes fault for not answering comm

I found out recently after feedback given to my Corse
That you don't actually have to kill everyone you have a bounty on
Logging doesn't mean you have to shoot people at all but RP instead, even on hostile factions. If someone doesn't want to fight, let them leave, give them e.g. a rp demand out for example even if you are mortal enemies Smile

And if they go at you - then give them that fight. Doesn't mean you shouldn't play the game! There really is a middle ground between /1*Sniff* /2 time to meet god and not logging

You know what - it's actually a fresh change of pace for both of you even though it feels weird at first
