Quote:Hah, why on earth would you mount 4 cerberus, you lose your power in an instant...
I only mount 1 cereb, today a blood dragon was baffled at my dodging skills at 1.8k he nearly called me a cheater, becouse I had all my botts and batts after the fight... (in wich he was planing on winning)
So I can make as much damage as I can and then start dodging.
Then you dodge, shoot all your power in 5-6 seconds (Infernos or Cerbs, depending if his shield is up or down) and then dodge again.
All from 1.8k distance.
As I said, it was anti-cap armed, it was average against fighters, but ok against bombers, due to missiles.
I don't know why, but GB missiles are much more accurate then Fighter missiles.
They actually hit quite a lot, especially bombers.

It is every Corsair's responsibility to die a beautiful death in defense of Crete, regardless of how OORP or how capwhoring the opposition is. Launch your fighter, joust the battlecruisers and die a beautiful death. Then, drink it down in the bar.
' Wrote:Also the vanilla fwd gun models have values in their ini files, which do limit their arcs. These values should be transferred for Orca, liberty, dragon and bretonian gb.
The bretonian gunboat is vanilla and the only accurate way to shoot it is directly in front try aiming slightly to the side and you miss despite its arcs.
After seeing the size of the Bretonian gunboat compared to the others I think it's forward gun should be boosted up to a liberty cruiser damage also. It's essentially just a big slow tank.
' Wrote:The Orca fwd gun is accurate. From 0 to somewhat arround 60 degree downward. Problem is, most or all of us have the tendency to aim upward. Then you'll miss with the Orca fwd gun. Its a physiological phenomenon
Actually not....
When you are in mouse flight, turn your ship towards a stationary target - so that it's in the middle of the reticle and the ship is not turning any more.
All this while having only the forward gun activated...
Then fire the forward gun..
it misses under, by quite some margin (2-3 fighter sizes lower).
I tried this a lot with both NPCs and stationary players (Frozen can confirm).
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
Yeah the orca forward gun is indeed quite buged. It should fire "Forward" that's what the name says anyhow.
I tried to conquer it's strangness (as it is a pretty ship) by flying downwards when dogfighting... to no avail whatsoever... I couldn't even hit NPC's with it... I saw a few people replacing it with fighter missile launchers... (much more useful than the actual forwardgun)
Perhaps the Idea behind it is similar to that of A10 Warthog. Angled a few degrees downward it's perfect for low level bombardment. As you can fly forward and shoot downwards...
It doesn't work very well with orca thou..

' Wrote:Forward guns, at this moment, are pretty much useless.
I'v even seen people mounting fighter missiles instead (CB's?).
They should do 3x more damage, consume 2x more energy, have 2k range, and have some 400-450 speed.
At the time, most GB fwd guns are weaker then bloody mini-razor, which is pretty silly.
Also, Liberty GB totally deserves to be nerfed for it's forward gun. It's agile, it's small, it has LOTS of turrets.
It doesn't need a FWD gun at all.
Also, FWD guns for Cruisers should be much better then now.
the foreward gun is really its only edge (i get out turned) keep the libbys fwd gunbesides its a capkiller or give it torpedo launchers and make it a PT sorta thing
and what did you mean by the fwd gun and missles are being changed?
that means that the gunboat gun slot is nothing but a weapon slot of lvl7 ( kusari ) or lvl8 ( orca ) - or whatever else on other GBs. - it allows mounting of any type of weapon up to its weaponclass. - since its a gun/missile hardpoint and not a turret hardpoint, you can as well mount fighter weaponry there.
now, a good thing about that is that this mount usually has a 360 degrees arc, its the guns itself that have a limited fire arc. - but since fighter weapons are much weaker in terms of projectile speed, its unadvisable to mount a fighter gun there... it messes with your aiming. - missiles however are a valuable addition, especially in fighter defense. - so a gunboat that switches its gun can usually mount a catapult or maybe a nicer missile there. - it won t really be of much use, but more use than a gunboat gun that can hardly outdamage a fighters minirazor and has a limited arc.
if its a lvl8 gunmount, it even makes sense to mount a debilitator there - cause the additional shielddamage is noticable against other gunboats / capitals. ( as long as you switch it off when you hunt fighters, cause the 750ms and the 1200ms don t go well )
The hardpoint for fwd guns is a turret or weapon hardpoint indeed, but the arc of the fwd guns is limited within their seperate ini's.
The weapon or turret class is determined by entries in shiparch.ini
Now that is a great Idea, many types of FWD guns! Woohoo...
