To whom it may concern.

My name is Jim Alber. I was once part of what was called the Battlegroup Veracruz, which also included people known shortly before the fall of Insurgency with call signs like "Romeo," "Juliet," and many others. The Juliet Wing, in particular, belongs to me.

In short, when rumors reached me that there were those still fighting, I realized it hadn't all been in vain. I proposed for all of us left do a journey across Sirius to gather whose we could, and then return to the Republic and fight the destroyers of our homeworld one last time. Alas, there are very few of us, and not all of us agreed to fight further. After all, so many years have passed...

But those who agreed have no intention of giving up so easily. We've been through enough to give up so easily. We've arrived in Pennsylvania and are ready to support the remaining elements of the Insurgency. We're prepared to work tirelessly for a week, after which I'll leave my men here with you while I head to Rheinland and the Omegas. Rumors are circulating that there are still survivors living somewhere in those parts. I can't help but check, because some of the survivors belong to my unit. When I gather the rest, we will return here, to you, to bring retribution to the Republic.

I'm waiting for an answer. And as soon as possible. If the rumors were true and the fight continues, then someone will answer me.

Sincerely,

Jim Alber

Jim Alber,

Where do you hail from, and what do you fight for?

You speak of our homeworld, but use the names, language, and protocols of the flash in the pan which undid all the Legion and Commonwealth had made of Vespucci, standing upon the shoulders of giants until all came tumbling down.

I was the only survivor aboard my gunship, the Dance For Me. We all like to assign meaning to death; no one wants to believe themselves, their comrades, will have died for nothing. But die they did, in a genocide your Insurgency enabled.

You may not have given the order, but with or without objection you saw it carried out.

The Legion's fight continues, the Insurgency's junta remains as it belongs.

Convince me that your and my fight are the same.

Ward, Marjorie.

I hail from the planet Los Angeles. I witnessed and participated directly in the war between the Liberty Republic and the then-existing Rheinland Federation. This House is now known as the Rheinland Empire. I was a member of the Hellfire Legion during a period when the Liberty proved their commanders not just incompetent, but incompetent: they literally sold out our comrades for credits and seriously hoped that we, those who survived, would die. What they didn't take into account was that our authority among our comrades was greater than that of the Admiralty.

And then we came here. To Veracruz. We swore an oath to the then-existing Commonwealth and vowed to protect the people of this planet at all costs. With the advent of the New Regime, we had no intention of waging a fratricidal war against our comrades, and the Commonwealth itself did not live up to its expectations: the Government turned out to be far from being the kind of people who honored the ideals of freedom.

The formation of our Battlegroup came during that difficult period, when the Insurgency was already facing its demise: the Liberty were on the outskirts of Veracruz, and so the actions of each of us were purely patriotic for our people. You could say we were a motley group of volunteers, members of Harmony and the Legion. In short, we were people from all over, whose primary goal was to save what little we had left.
  • We played our part in rescuing refugees from the planet Veracruz and allowing them to find refuge in Yuma or Erie.
  • We have thrown all our efforts into organizing the transfer of refugees as far as possible from the active combat zone.
  • We played a role in the destruction of the Delaware, one of the most important Liberty battleships at the time, dispelling the myth of their invincibility.
  • And we reminded the Republic that even while surrounded, we can show up at their sanctuary - their beloved Long Island. And what's more, we went there, giving the rest a chance to leave before the final chord came.

Do you want to know what I fought for? For my people. I was loyal to Veracruz until my last breath, loyal to his people, who managed to survive all the hardships and tribulations and find a better home. And I will be very glad if those who are now under the yoke of Liberty, those who once lived on Veracruz, can regain their freedom, and not fear that they have been deprived of the life that they have been chasing for so many years. This is our revenge on the Republic for the grievances it has inflicted upon us.

They took Veracruz from us. Our home. We will take Erie from them.

My commanders and comrades are dead. Most of them. A good half of them were not from the Legion, but from Harmony. And together, we formed what was called the Insurgency. But all of them died for the right cause.

The honor of none of us was tarnished.

Sincerely,

Jim Alber

We called our home Guadalajara, Mister Alber.

We called it Guadalajara, and the Commonwealth's failure to value "the people's ideals of Freedom" was their refusal to authorize the Legion's operation to evac Battlegroup Harmony and their separatists out in Bering.

The one which cost us Hesperia.

The one which cost us our independence.

The one which, ultimately, cost us our home.

Tell me again how they were wrong to forbid it.

I believe that you were there in the end, and I believe you did your best in Vespucci's twilight days, but don't lie to my face and call yourself a Legionnaire. I don't have time for stolen valor. If that's a title you want, you'll have the chance to earn it; I'm in no position to turn away more guns, but let me be crystal fucking clear:

We are fighting to free our people and to restore the legitimacy of the Commonwealth as a constitutional state embodying the true ideals of House Liberty. That work has likely been set back decades by the damage our aid to Harmony cost us. So if there is even the slightest shadow of a doubt as to the loyalties of you and your people, whispers of military rule and juntaism, and the weakness of the rule of law?

I will put my sidearm to your temple and I will pull the trigger myself.
