Liberty Navy Issues Open Defense Contracts

Norfolk Shipyard - Earlier today, a spokesperson for the Liberty Navy announced that they would be opening contracts to supply critical ship components to bids from all legal suppliers. This is a substantial change from normal military procedure, and indicates a perceived need to rapidly develop increased military capability in the Navy. The spokesperson continued to say that normal channels could be used to contact the Navy, and that any interested party with a modular shipyard should send in their information as soon as they possibly can. While the spokesperson did not comment on the precise reason for this new initiative to be introduced, there has been a noted increase in the refitting of warships at Norfolk that have been mothballed since the end of the Gallic War, and several of these ships have already been sent back into active service.

Many of these ships have been sent to Colorado to defend against potential Kusari aggression, and the recent reveal of militarized Jump Drive technology has only caused a further increase in these deployments. Anonymous sources within the Navy have also stated that there is a view that if presented an opportunity, Kusari would have no qualms about launching a surprise attack on Liberty if presented the chance, much like they did when they invaded Gallia in the recent past. The increasingly large deployment in Colorado has also coincided with a call from many in the Senate to reactivate military reserves, citing concerns that the military is being called upon to do too much with too few bodies.
