General Memo 5-13-35

This is a personal note of a General Memo issued by Promethean Command, by way of Megiddo, the commanding artificial intelligence. Yoruha, our source, has lost access to the original copy of this memo, hence this report is on the basis of recollection alone and retains overall accuracy.

The memo describes a contact event occurring at approximately 0330 Guadalajara Standard Time. A single craft approached Valravn airspace carrying valid Legion authentication codes, Legion livery, and drive signatures consistent with long-range patrol records. The craft was heavily overgrown with crystalline matter associated with non-human biological intelligence. The pilot identified as a former Legionnaire, recovered by a splinter NHBI faction operating independently from the larger hostile collective. He reported that his memories had been substantially restored, that he retained personal autonomy, and that other former Legionnaires in similar circumstances had accepted arrangements with this splinter group, trading operational service as communicators and field assets for the freedom to continue fighting.

Lord Stratarch Megiddo noted that the Garrison's command structure had been monitoring this splinter faction prior to the contact event, and that prior findings were consistent with the pilot's claims regarding their independence and conduct toward humans.

Attached to the memo was a declassified communications transcript of the exchange between Megiddo and the pilot, with limited redactions for operational security. The conversation covered the pilot's fragmented personal history, the terms under which he and others accepted recovery, and the nature of what the splinter group sought from the Legion: a working relationship, and a point of connection to humanity. No... no, it is most definitely not good news. It is, however, exceedingly well-timed.

I've been searching for proof to this effect. This "Nibwaakaawin" ID matches an alleged alien representative identified in your leak supplied last year. I suppose this confirms that information. It's something I can use.

If their entire Exarchy is exploring relations - against what seemed to be vivid protest in the ranks - then it's difficult to tell to what degree their forces have been exposed to this species' parasitism. One pilot admitted plainly to a form of mental contact. Well-connected sources inform us they turn men and women into their servants by such a means.

And they've had close to a year to work this ability on the rest. Damn distressing, isn't it?

We'll exercise due caution dealing with the Task Force from hereon. The Technocracy as well, for that matter, given that their "guidance" seemingly extends to Inverness. I'll disseminate the warning out to any Militant cell I believe can keep from signaling that we're on to them. Until the time is right.

Whatever these aliens' motives, I'll not be found unprepared. They do, however, still bring the fight to Liberty's occupation, you'll note.

Bowman.

Speaking with total honestly - I don't know. My gut tells me to bring the axe down and let the killing begin in earnest. It's bad enough these people posture as survivors of a defunct Legion, and Commonwealth. But matters are made worse by their willful subservience and cooperation with these creatures.

Some semblance of wisdom compels me to wait. At least for now. Allow them to throw themselves at the problem that is Liberty so that when the time comes we can kill two birds with one stone and leave Erie with you and yours. Free of not only this taint, but Liberty's occupation.

We've got the same idea of it, then.

With these creatures' capabilities, they're likely not used to being caught unawares. Should we remain insulated from this supposed indoctrination and keep the Task Force focused on Liberty, it allows me time to posture more cells against any potential infiltration in secret.

Of course, it's a sizable risk. Lax security measures cannot be tolerated with these sort of stakes... but, the only true beneficiary of an open conflict right now is the Republic. The collateral damage of infighting at this point, with their craft rotating in and out of Pinnacle Station, could easily cripple what momentum we've built starside.

We'd best walk the tightrope. That axe'll have to find its mark, but not today.

In Pennsylvania and despite the fact that the truce still stands and has held through periods of tension. I had hoped for some degree of long-term thinking from these lapdogs, but traitors thrice over can only ever be trusted to betray again.

I am giving you read only access to a report on the matter.

There are now calls for blood in the hallways, and I can't promise it won't flow. Today they try their luck with us; tomorrow it'll be with you, should they find you sufficiently depleted and isolated from popular support.

We need to act now and cut them out. Do what the Navy couldn't and wipe this slate clean.

Even now these fools dream themselves your masters, claiming that their "liberation" of Erie will silence their critics. They would revisit all the age-old tyranny of their dead Legion on your world and your people, all so that they can make the same mistakes again.

They deserve to die. All of them.

I'd hoped your supposed shift of focus back to Ontario would all but eliminate the chance of this happening.

Their radicals are eager to disappoint me.

A problem: the situation has not become less precarious in the last five days. Pinnacle Station remains their primary point of operations in the system - our station. Much as I distrust their motives, the blood they've spilled against our shared enemy has been a tangible gain.

If it's proper time for you and the Legionnaires to finish your blood feud, as they seem eager to?

Then, by all means, let the work begin. I'll not lift a finger for them.

So long as it doesn't threaten Pinnacle Station.

You've Milford to rely on, but Graham's holdout is the centerpiece of our operations. If your campaign puts his cell at risk, justifying my inaction will become impossible. If, however, you fill the black with Legion wreckage from Harrisburg to Allentown?

All I have to convince our compatriots of is to let history play to its conclusion. That their feuds aren't ours. Far more sensible ex-Insurgents among our cause have already struck their old colors. We owe no loyalty to the banner of a foreign world, or those making bargains with parasites.

To keep from dividing us unnecessarily and doing Liberty's work for them, you've two options in pursuing this: continue to treat Pinnacle Station under informal Freeport rules within ten kilometers, as Graham himself would likely prefer, or shift your operations off-station to Milford and avoid the vicinity of Lansdale.

Either allows us to make clear that their vendetta is as brickheaded as it is dangerous, spread word of their craven subservience, and frees you to destroy them at your leisure system-wide with little complaint from Pinnacle affiliates.

This frees my men to do what we should all be doing: focusing on the damned Republic's rearmament efforts.

So. Does the axe fall today?
