Fighters cost about 15 million USD's. A gunship (small ship, big guns) costs about... 100, I think. That would be the 1.5 million credit to 15 million credit gap.
You're prices may be a bit high, but if you look at the percentages.... 50 million to a couple hundred. Let's say... 700 million, ok?
700/50=14
10x1.5(price of FL fighteR)=21
That would make gunboats 21 million credits... Uh.... Just where it should be. :P
Cost of the USS Ronald Regan (Nuclear Air Craft Carrier): 250 Million Dollars
Cost of a F-14 Tomcat: 2.4 Milliion Dollars
Cost of a YF-22 Raptor: 1.8 Million Dollars
The most expensive ship on the mod is the Osiris at over 100 Million Dollars, which is quite fine. I do not see the point in creasing costs here, especially since System owning fee is $300 mil.
THere *IS* a limit to how much you can have on the server. It's $999,999,999 (i've broken that, but by bending the rules a bit) and I don't think ANYONE here wants to trade, trade, trade till they get $500 mil for a freakin' cap ship.
Be realistic here. I Like your power, shield, hull and range ideas, but your monetary figures are so out of this world that you're gonna be laughed right off the server, man.
Now, for EVERYONE's information...
No one has a skewed opinion. DO, you were quite out of line saying that Nightfall had a skewed opinion of things. You were not here to watch CUFF or the -=?=- pricks raise havoc on this server, balantly violating server rules and running weapon loadouts that greatly unbalanced them. Nightfall prefers balance, and by god, SO DO I. The Marsflyer was, in my opinion, a HUGE mistake to include in the DIscovery mod, but it's been done. It cannot be removed.
Nightfall: You say unbalanced. other say "blow me away" Personal preference: Kill them. <G>
Guys, we've got like four threads now about how to improve discovery, and the ideas are great, but the little details are getting a little out of hand. Please remember that there are a *LOT* of things you have to consider, such as time, and how long others have been on this server.
Now.. As far as the F1 thing goes.. I'll deal with it. Both of you two shut up about it while I debate on how to deal with it Ok ?
This whole thing is creating a mess and I don't want to deal with *ANOTHER* clusterf*ck of a mess here, as My personal life is already a charlie-foxtrot.

If stats and price could go up like 160 mil for a bs, 90 mil for a cruiser and 50 mil for a gunboat and dmg of guns upped a bit i think that would b fine.
however i think a new turret should be introduced for 15 mil a peice (anti-fighter turret with 2000 speed)
Very interesting, one question though, do those prices include equipping the ships with state of the art technology? Or are these prices refering to outdated seabourne ships? (as opposed to seabourne ships with modern technology)
I find it hard to believe that the gap between a fighter and a capital class ship is only 75 Million USD I'll have to look it up later but when you get into a ship that large you have to start thinking about things like: crew quarters, fuel effeciency systems, equipment to moniter and assist in maintaining the vessel, just to name a few.
For a fighter you pretty much simply make a high powered engine, throw a frame on it, give it some high powered manuvering equipment, throw a body over that, put some targeting, communications, and ordinance management equipment in it along with the control system for flying the craft and that's really about it, but for a capital ship you need all that PLUS the stated above and more, it adds up to a great deal of money, which is why 100 million for even a gunship seems alitle low to me.. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the cost of armor plating itself, plus the labor (man hours) required to produce the ship, not to mention the man hours behind designing the ship. If you can find some accurate numbers I'd love to see them, but anyways I'm starting to get really off-topic with the cost banter. lol
Edit:
Well apparently it took me awhile to post this because two posts were added prior, with your posts (McNeo & Wolfpack) I think with this kind of power upgrade the pricing suggestion by McNeo would probrably be appropriate.

75 million? You need to re-read what I said.
AIr craft carrier: 250 Million (or was it billion? I forgot)
F14 Tomcat: 2.4 Million (according to 1986 stats I have somewhere)
State of the art Raptor : 1.8 Million.
And this *INCLUDES* everything on the ships. You will *NEVER* see a brand new ship rolled out with old tech. Never. Nofrolk will never let them on the sea with that kind of crap.

Erm.... Wolf I dunno what USD$ your using but those numbers seem way too low.
Carrier = ~$5bn
F-22 = ~$200m
(i'll look up the exact numbers if you like).
But, folks, none of that matters! Freelancer is not and never was designed to be an accurate picture of RL. Comparing prices of 20/21st centry military hardware in the Sirius universe is downright silly. Apples and oranges....
Other than that I agree with Wolf.... deal with it and no F1'ing.... although maybe the Mars guns could be nerfed in 4.81??? (just a sug :)
Ok I didn't think I was that far off, infact Onca's numbers put me with smaller amounts... Anyways my original intent wasn't to compare the prices to their 20th/21st century counterparts as much as it was to show the price difference between the similar craft.

No.
I have never mounted any fighter/freighter turrets on any of my BS's. Infact the closest I've got to mounting a fighter turret was when I tried a few solarius chaingun turrets.
DO: You never mentioned that hoodlum also F1'd out on you too. Or is that because you chased him half-way across delta? Even though he'd told you to leave him alone because you were trying pirate him to get all the weapons in his hold.
Oh and while we're on the subject,
Wolf: the rules in the IDs about not pirating in anything bigger then a gunboat,
Does it still apply if your target is in a cruiser/destroyer or a BS.
Anyhow, back on topic:
We spent several weeks trying to get both the -=?=- and CUFF to obey the server rules, usually failing, so to see a new player start using the same weapon load-outs and not seeing what the problem is or refusing to change the view 'it's not it the rules so I can' gets annoying real fast.
Corsair turrets are much better then solarius at killing off fighters, yes they do less damage then a normal turret but that's because their refire rate is alot higher.
All we really need is to add to the server rules is a line or two along the lines of this:-
'Transport, Gunboat, Cruiser, Destroyer, BS turrets are only for use on transports, gunboats, cruisers/destroyers and BS's. If it doesn't say it can be used on anything bigger then a freighter don't mount it.'
Hmmm... looks like I've been cheating then
I have a Nomad gunboat, and I put Corsair BS turrets on it. (the default Nomad turrets suck, too low refire rate.) That went pretty good, but they just eat power too quick. So I put purple goddess/solarius turrets on.... sounds like your saying using p/g turret is a no-no?? solarius is ok i guess, since it eats power like a BS turret :D
Which brings me to next question: aside from the RP aspect, is there any advantage of BS turrets over fighter turrets? Except for the speed/range of course... are the beams bigger, do they do splash damage, or what? I mean, is the only reason they have such heavy power expendature is because they belong on a BS?
