It was thousands of years ago, and the Dom’Kavosh was at their peak; their society was growing and flourishing. They had but one concern, a murderer and a mad man had been causing problems for the locals, this murderer was nothing but a annoyance to the local Dom'Kavosh and the ones that handled these problems did, they had captured the murderer and imprisoned it’s being inside an capsule, there it would await eternity, forever trapped within an shell, unable to do anything but think.
There it lay, trapped within an prison that would never open, only thinking of the pleasures of death and suffering and how it caused it over so many of years.
It lay still unknowing of what happened on the outside, little did it know that the outside was changing, so many things was changing.
What had happened was that the Dom'Kavosh had disappeared and that humans had arrived in Sirius and it was thanks to these humans that “Metus” where released.
It all began with an exploration team, on a previously unexplored planet in the Taus. There had been during the latest months a lot of Dom'Kavosh findings on distant planets, many of which were sold on the black market. One of these where found on that planet, a strange elongated egg shaped artifact which its discoverers found to be an excellent piece of discovery. They locked it up inside a safe onboard their transport, and it was then the troubles began.
The research and excavation team, was not alone there, they had used mercenaries to handle the escort and make sure that they remained safe on the planet while they explored its ruins and the mysteries that lay waiting for them.
The mercenaries were interested themselves of the artifact as they know that they where worth a hefty sum on the black market, the leader of the escorts, a large obese man named Lucas Dagger, had asked some of his men to watch the researchers while he took a look at the artifact.
As Lucas was looking trough the ship for the location of the artifact, he had the sudden feeling of where it was. And as he entered the captain’s quarters, he saw the safe containing the artifact. He felt compelled to break it open and take it out, and his inner greedy feelings took the better of him. He took up his gun and blasted a whole trough the safe door, he felt as he saw the artifact that it was the most precious thing he had ever seen and that it would make him so rich that he could live out his remaining days on some tropical island on some far away planet. Little did he know that he was to release an ancient terror upon Sirius and Humanity itself.
As Lucas exited the ship, a lone researcher spotted him with the artifact and raised an alarm, Lucas in his delirium shot the researcher and ran off toward his fighter, on the way there the other mercenaries met up with him to join him as he planned to leave the planet. But as he entered the cockpit he got the idea that the researchers may place a bounty on him, so he decided to remove the evidence. He ordered the mercenaries to bomb the transport and the excavation site from orbit, to make sure that no one could tell what had happened. They of course never hesitated to question Lucas orders and started to bombard the surface with Nova torpedos; no one was left alive on the planet’s surface when the group flew away.
After arriving back in the civilized parts of Sirius Lucas completely closed himself of from any contact, so the others continued their work, hiring themselves as escorts or muscle. While Lucas sat in his ship, contemplating the feelings and sensations that the artifact gave him. He thought of somewhere where he’d be left alone, so he ventured into the asteroid field in that system, there he sat for days, until he finally managed to open the artifact. Metus, was once a mortal, much as the Dom'Kavosh, but having ones being, trapped within an eternal prison for thousands of years made him die. His need and desire for pain and suffering hadn’t been clenched though, so his desires kept him alive, in a non-corporeal form, a spirit if you may. And as it was released, its hunger grew. When Lucas had opened the artifact, Metus in its desire to exist, grabbed a hold of Lucas and transferred itself into his body. The memories of Lucas and the talents this obese man had, where now its own. Metus didn’t understand why it could or why it did what it did, why it had taken over the body and mind of the human, but it knew that it didn’t have one of its own. So it flew off into the distant parts of Sirius, in the ship that Lucas had. Whereas Metus, pondered over what had happened, the universe was so.. New, yet familiar. It searched the memories of the host and learned how the Sirius sector now functioned, its new inhabitants, the humans were the main group of people and they where… Easily fearful and filled with memories, that Metus now could sense. It felt a purpose again, a reason to exist.
When the host started to get weaker as time went on, Metus wondered what it should do, its host wouldn’t survive much longer and it couldn’t leave the body. So it sent out a distress call, and waited. But as luck had it, the host died and Metus was once again trapped within a prison.
Some months later, a Kusari Destroyer, that happened to pass the system for scans and exploration picked up the fighter to investigate the pilots death. They had decided to wait with an autopsy until they had reached their goal, a previously un explored region of space. In this system there was nothing, say a jump hole. As the captain of the Kusari destroyer decided to go through the stabile Jump hole, the doctor had decided to do an autopsy on the dead pilot of the derelict ship, but as the doctor touched the skin of the man, Metus was released into the body of the doctor, but decided against taking over its functions, it simply waited until the time was right.
After having observed the new system that they had entered, which in fact was a enormous nebula, the doctor had requested that the captain should come down to the medical bay to discuss the autopsy of the dead pilot they had found some weeks earlier.
The captain obliged and had the discussion with the doctor, who told the captain of how the pilot died of lack of food and water, that it in fact was a natural death. This of course was a good sign, since if it had been bacterial or even viral infection; it could have caused an outbreak onboard the destroyer. The captain thanked the doctor, and in their custom shook the hand of the doctor, it was then that Metus transferred itself into the captain’s body. Minutes afterwards an explosion shook the ship and as the captain ran towards the bridge, Metus was desperately trying to gain control of its movements and mind. But as luck would have it… An explosion caused a hull breach and within minutes, almost all the air was drained. The breach itself was sealed, with emergency force fields shortly afterwards. Unfortunately the entire supply of air had run out and the crew died within minutes. That included the Captain…
Metus spent years in the body of the captain, unable to move or do anything. Until one day it took on great power and concentrated on being able to move the hand of the corpse, it had worked. It had control of the body, after time, it gained more control and eventually full control.
It spent months training its own concentration, the body would eventually be like its own, but without the need for food or water. Over time it even had the control to change the bodies appearance, given it the shadowy form it now has. And, as time went on, it noticed that it could transfer a piece of itself to awaken the other corpses of the crew, making it easier to repair the ship.
It now ponders on what to do, shall it stay here, on this ship and wait out time and the universe, or shall it become a part of it and reign death and terror amongst the humans and the living?
