ok, see if this works, probably wont if your dad is at all computer savvy...

Start menu -> run
Type CMD.exe, or just CMD

this brings up the dos command prompt.

in the black window, type ipconfig
you should get a four line response in the center, with the last 3 lines having ip addresses.

take note of the IP address labelled "Default Gateway".

Open up your internet browser, and type that IP address into the search bar, with no www or http:// or anything, just the numbers and periods.

A password/username thing should pop up. Leave the username blank, and type admin for the password.

Assuming your dad isnt all that great with computer security, it should log you into your router settings, and from there you can open up ports and whatnot.

Heh, I got that far myself.

And he is an elctronic engineer who helped create the last iPod, and is the best person with computers I have ever met.

His password is a hexidecimal 12 character one, of total nonsense. I saw itr briefly once, and he told me how he made it...

"Think of a phrase, and take the first letter of each word. Then, l33t it, and add in two random punctuation marks. It'll take a password cracker years to crack it...."

I think I should give up now:P

The solution...

Get a job, install a separate internet line (FiOS) and let them whine bottlenecking their shared connection, while you have a super-fast fiber all of your self.

You are 16 years old dude, at your age I was smoking, hitting the bong and riding a bike... Sheesh...

On the other hand, I would not let the parenting my son's internet habits on a piece of software...

He'll get you sooner or later. He's not one of those old versions of dads who where like: "The Internet???? It sounds delicious" A dad who has know-how to do what you described is unbeatable.

4h only per day, huh? That does not sound like the end of the world to me. Maybe they are thinking of what's best for you and your sister? Sounds like you've got problems staying off the net. Walking a dog to get the fix of the net? :) I'd say resourceful but at the same time a bit alarming too,

It sure distinctly sound like: " I can quit anytime I want!". But consequently I know what you mean. I get cranky if I don't get the net on a regular basis. Luckily I'm the father who says and does the rules around my house.

Flying under radar.

Whats the phrase? ask him the phrase and I will crack it for ya:DWell I will give you a few different possibilities. It wont take me years, it will take me maybe a few hours to come up with all possibilities if the phrase is given

Now, I might be wrong, but I have a feeling your father probably thinks you want to outsmart him by getting around his internet blockage by hacking or something. So confident is he in his superiority that he'll miss the obvious. As Asimov said, "It pays to be obvious, especially if you have a reputation for subtlety." Seth, you had created a poll, I would vote for "Secret mega-antenna for picking up neighbor's unsecured wireless."

And to all you who think four hours of internet is enough, information is the worst kind of drug. It's all about the Californication.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

Hmm, could someone tell me how to create this Mega antenna and how to lug it into my laptop...?

Well, I have found out how to get around it.

If anyone else ever has this problem, plugging a wire into the router works perfectly well:)

No blocks.

Just can't do it when the parent's are in house, but that isn't often:P

Ummm... 4 hours a day is... enough to get me bored.. at most I get two... maybe three, and my parents don't even like that. I'd say you have it quite good already... believe me, parents know best- I've figured that out over the past year.
