As long as your main screen is not in HDMI, you can do it, however if your main screen is in HiDef, you're going to have to revert the monitor that isn't into normal mode and then load FL, making your larger screen the windows desktop. Reason being is Freelancer does not work in HiDef.

P.S. You're signature is too large, you may want to slim it down a little bit.
hi ash im not sure what u mean by a splitter and imports..
but you can run multi monitor in several ways easily :-
1) With one video card , dual monitor ports: You need to configure video so that it stretche the desktop across the two screens. You can then run FL in full screen on one monitor. The resolution of the other monitor may change depending on the veideo card.
2) Using technique 1) you can also run FL in window mode on one monitor.
3) The best technique is to stick an old PCI slot video card into your machine. Say a Tseng Labs for about $5. Then you will have 2 video cards one for each monitor. Run FL on your 3D card port and do your other stuff on your Tseng Labs card. It works perfectly --- 2 independent monitor screens.

all these will only get the game to work on 1 monitor.
mostly it will pipe through your primary display driver.
if you want full 2 screen viewing of just freelancer (and not anything else on one of the screens) you will need to purchase an additional device. (cant remember what they are called.) But, this will take your primary display from your vid card and split it over 2+ screens.
Setup is easy, you install nothing on the computer, just plug 1 monitor cable into the device, then your 2+ monitors into the device.
This is also how they used to use multiple TV's setup to run one video image over all of them making them look like 1 tv.
Probably set you back anywhere from 50 - 300 depending on what you want to do.
Last I had seen this tech being used was by a guy playing anarchy online. He split it over 3 22inch LCD's. (run google search, AO 3 monitors)
looked like fun but you have to remember you will be stretching your regular resolution over 2+ screens, so you may not get the quality you would think.

The second screen (actually the left one) is a 4:3 ratio so it doesn't sit right (Plugged it in for this). The taskbar cutting into Freelancer if anything shows the screenbreak however, despite setting the config to both the screens total pixels it doesn't expand.
Thats the closest I ever achived to it, on my main desktop I just have it over one monitor and then skype, firefox etc on my second, personally i'd think it would be too stretched.
Secondly as you see the game refits itself into the largest monitor, you can't physically stretch it over to the second and keeping the first one filled. The game isn't designed for it (Even getting it widescreen takes a few edited files). With a few more editing you might get it done, but for me I've never been able to do it.
