I understood the dark and dreary part, that's why I said the shadow is kinda harsh. You only get that sharp of a shadow when you have really bright light casting it. Try using the Drop Shadow layerstyle in Photoshop rather than using a semi-transparent silhouette. Also, full her figure downwards a few pixels so that the heel of her boot isn't overlapping the background. That will help alleviate the optical illusion feeling that it has right now.
