Over the last few weeks I've noticed an increase in the CPU usage graph. And I'm wondering what could be causing this and how and it be elped?

I also would like to ask techniques on how to keep a compluter (laptop) running as amoothly as possible.

I recommend using Ccleaner to clean out clutter, and limit startup programs:
http://www.ccleaner.com
You can google them if you don't know them.

Also, defragment every so often. I think that Smartdefrag is decent for this.
http://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.html

And run a virus scanner, a free one is Avast.

To keep the battery from being overcharged, and if it's mostly stationary, keep it plugged in, but remove the battery. That can reduce some heat. Also, use dust busters/canned airs to clean out the laptop.

Those are the <strike>2</strike> 4 that are at the top of my head right now.

Come on! Be free!

Ctrl Alt Del -> Processes -> Sort by CPU usage. That should tell you what is going on.

I had that problem for a bit. It seem to has gone away.

With me it was horrible though.
CoD for example. 50fps-4-20-1-40-1 and so on with 60ping only. This was happening with everything even WMP was laggy alot. music kept on skipping.
CPU usage was hitting 100% every few minutes or even seconds for the app that was open on screen. Even when it doesn't normally do that much usage.

Turning all the garbage that you get at start up is a good place to start.

Saw no difference. Load times same for CoD:WaW with it enabled. Going to try others tomorrow.
