It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

Never been a fan of them, they're just there to stroke the egos of PvPers. Don't see any 'SoAndSo is RPing more awesomely than Chuck Norris!' messages.

They're useful in disagreements and as proof really. Put it this way, bounty contracts wouldn't work half the time if we didn't have kill messages.

Kill messages are fine, and a necessity. The Chuck Norris-esque messages for killing tons of people aren't.
