the problem there is not the RP. - RP is good - and i can see the point of course.... the problem is that we have rules of fairness that overwrite even the best RP intentions.
when you encounter a trader and you KNOW that he has billions and you SEE that his cargo will make it another 10.000.000 more - you can still not ask for 10.000.000 cause that would be considered "unreasonable".
the matter of choice is the crucial part there. when the "inevitable" outcome is that the trader is being attacked - left with no choice ( at least no real choice ).
so when i come up to a trader and ask him for 100.000.000 ( which sometimes is what the cargo is worth - at least for weaponsdealers ) - he has no practical choice but to deny, which leads to a hostile encounter. - an inevitable hostile encounter. ( or i wish to see the trader that parts with 100 million credits )
so - YES, it is RP and YES, i see the logic and all - but consider that...
what if YOU were the weaponsdealer with cargo worth several hundred millions credits and was given the choice to either part with your cargo - or be blown up ( and loose it that way ) - it can be interpreted as only a reason to pvp - or to kill - even if the RP intentions are 100% good.
when i m playing Gaian and i encounter a ship carrying boron to LD-14 ( or whatever you bring there ) - it would be "unreasonable" to ask that trader to drop all his cargo 30 klicks from his destination .... he would simply not do it - and by asking that .... one can accuse me of only being after the kill. - even if its in RP for a gaian to stop someone supporting LD-14.
but anyway - maybe i m too concerned about fairplay - so lets say.... personally - i wouldn t want to do it without RPing *with* the weaponsdealer, - the RP opportunity would be better than staging a massive attack on one - just so he quickdocks with the next mooring fixture anyway... but yea - thats just me.

Yes, it is allowed.

Yes, it is allowed.

No, it isn't.
Treat it like any other act of piracy and you should have no problems. Demands to drop all cargo are not unreasonable from a rules standpoint, no matter what the cargo is.

Thank you very much for clearing that for me..I might make a topic gathering interested parties, when I figure the plan out some more. I shall leave the dealers trembling for now;)..
Oh and if the cargo is very valuable, I shall refrain for taking too much, because it is indeed bad form to ruin someone's hard work all the way..

Keep in mind that despite this all being roleplayed as serious and dastardly, that it's all just pixels. Anyone getting overly upset over bad things happening to them in a video game needs to take a step back. Arms dealers included.
Also, what trader, arms dealer or no, would keep such a vast amount of non-fluid capital on him?
Amusing aside: I've had "looter" characters get really upset with me because as a Junker, I beat them to wrecks.
Another side note: I spent a good 18 months playing EVE Online a couple years ago. Now that's a game that puts loss of video game loot into perspective.
Well noone obsesses too much about FL stuff, at least I don't.
But of course it makes me sad sometimes when something bad happens. But I get over it quickly.. But I can't say I don't care.

k - with Xorias official statement - i ll withdraw my concerns about fairplay for both sides and a "real" choice when asked for valuables in exchange for the chars life.
still makes me feel uneasy - but from my pirates point of view, i ll just ask them to drop all cargo now instead of asking for money, thats more in RP - even if no trader will comply.

Same here. Never said I don't get mad, but it's all perspective.
It's like the same level of angry you get when someone doesn't hold the elevator for you.
While, as Xoria has clarified, there is nothing stopping you from pirating a dealer for their codes, as Jinx stated, asking for all of them is a bit nasty. Asking for equivalent cash for the ones you want, or just asking for the particular ones you want is more reasonable and gives the dealer a choice other than "lose everything". Although, good luck since a fair number of them are parked about quick-dock points.
It is doable though; my LR has pirated a dealer for an 'import tax', and I was in another LR group when we extorted another dealer.

Guess I'll have to extend my trade run to LD-14, just to prove that some people will drop all their cargo, even at 30k from their destination (assuming you manage to convince me it would be in my interest to do so (durn Gaians:P))

In reading the arguments and such on here back and forth...
I know that weapons dealers perform a function on this or any server - but at the same time, as someone who's had characters out in the boonies, suddenly finding a wreck that I didn't know was there - and seeing a player suddenly show up (logged on from F1'ing off), loot the wreck, and then disappear (F1'd back off) while I'm fighting off a crapload of NPC's...
Besides that, finding a weapons dealer anywhere but a fast dock from a base is a rare thing.
Of course, as Xoria mentioned - they're just like anyone else, and you can freely pirate them if you're unlawful. I'd say go for it - if nothing else, that'd give us a NICE bounty to collect when it gets posted on your head. :P
