@Cosmos: - you are right. it is NOT within roleplay. - its an agreement that its free-for-all. same thing with the supernova - a super secret antimatter energycannon capable of inflicting more damage than a medium sized battleship mortar for an energycost that can only be considered laughable and a size to fit onto a ships that are sometimes smaller than VHFs.
still - would you want only the order to use supernovas?
the minirazor is a special torp weapon - i do not know when it was decided that its free-for-all... but when you compare it to the inferno ... the outcasts have quite a lobby claiming the inferno to be "theirs" - and only theirs. the corsairs never really cared too much about the razor like the outcasts cared for the inferno.
if you tried making the inferno free-for-all, you d face a storm of embarassment... .
and about balance... bounty hunters shouldn t use the supernova ( when we take RP seriously ) - they shouldn t use the nova either, nor the razor. - whats left then? - the sunslayer...... . yay.
the outcasts would rip through shields like gods - but once the shields were down... they d sit there twiddling their thumbs, cause - even if the kraken II is the best gun in the game - they wouldn t do much to most warships.
the corsairs however would kill shields with their supernovas ( from their allies ) and hulls alike. - against fighters, they could mount the minirazor. - now thats quite an advantage for one faction.
I still think it is within role play. If the tech was given to the Zoners then they can do with it as they please. Which, since they are neutral, is sell to everyone. They sell and support the BHG, Corsairs, Order, Junkers, anyone and everyone.
don t mistake everything zoners sell to be "free for grabs" - zoners may sell things on their bases... but sometimes its meant to be only sold to - yea... other zoners. not all the scum of the universe.
just cause a juggernaut is sold by zoners doesn t mean its free for all. - basicly - zoners use what they have or sometimes what their allies offer. - in "special cases" they sell their stuff to outsiders, too.
its as plausible that the order only gives their high tech to zoners so that they can distribute it among the zoner faction as it is plausible that the zoners sell it to everyone they allow to dock.
Well, in vanilla, Zoners didn't have any allies. In Disco, they gained 2: Order and GMG.
In no way can these be considered allies in the sence that the Liberty Navy and Agiera are allies, or even the Outcasts and the Blood Dragons.
Reason being, Zoners will allow the GMG's mortal enemies (Outcasts and Corsairs) to dock at their bases, resupply, buy new equipment, etc, etc, same forhe Order's enemies (Hunters). This state of affairs is known and accepted by all involved, after all, having some neutral ground is quite beneficial...
In all honesty, given The Order's complete disreguard for political issues within Humanity, I can quite imagine them distributing their tech to the Zoners with the intent that they sell it on to other factions. After all, no one really likes Nomads, so the likelyhood is that those guns are gonna be used to squish a squiddie a some point.
As Jinx pointed out, there is also the balance issue...if only Order/Corsairs were allowed to use Supernovas or Razors, no one else would field caps, so the weapons would become irrelevant, anyway...
Keep in mind also that the Mini Razor is sold on a Hessian base (Casablanca). If you want the RP behind it, then consider that Casablanca was captured from the Corsairs by Hessians (which it was), and the technology spread across Sirius from there.
Moreover, the assumption that the order is so much more advanced than any house military that the house cannot replicate their technology...
In vanilla, the order had one trick up their sleeve, and they'd stolen it from the nomads. Guess what? The rhienlanders had that same tech. In disco, the Bretonians have the best justification for use of alien tech, followed by Rheinland, then Kusari, then the Order. If you are claiming that the order (who may well have first developed the weapon) never lost a ship, that the corsairs never lost a ship, that any ships lost had irrecoverable damage to the SNAC and MR...
I simply don't believe the weapons could remain tightly controlled if they were fielded widely enough to be effective.
