If "making sense" was a prerequisite, Eris would have left the building years ago. And would probably have been banned from returning forever.

I too think we're over-reacting here.. but then again.. it fits my bloody BS (belief system):

"Imposition of Order = Escalation of Chaos".

Currently 4 out of the 6 open faction creation threads are essentially splinter factions.

Really? I suppose the Wanderers are a splinter, but I don't really see any others. I don't really consider Merc factions to be splinters, unless they're very closely tied to one particular NPC faction and have something unique about them. They're mercenaries, get paid to shoot things, some just get an ongoing exclusive contract rather than working for anyone who offers them cash.

(OPG): A collection of Pirates from the Omega 41, which has defaulted them into being Corsairs.

Sir, your knowledge is seriously flawed. The Brotherhood is not a rebellious group who is not pleased with the council of elders and solves problems with conflict, they are guardians of the Corsair nation, taking on the responsibility of the war with the Outcasts, the Benitez isn't just a family, it is a family which dedicates itself to the defense of the Corsairs' space and people, and the OPG is a coalition of Corsairs who case themselves out of Cadiz in Omega-5 and manage the war with the Hessians. That doesn't leave much room for future RPs at all, actually. There aren't many more things that can be done...

Of course, my knowledge can be extremely flawed as well, but as far as I know, that's the Corsairs in a nutshell....

Baconsoda you are absolutely correct, since the Corsairs are a large criminal organization it can allow multiple official factions within itself if the person intending has a creative mind, such as OPG handling business in the Omega's specifically the Hessians, the TBH handling the war with the Outcasts as well as protecting our bases, and the Benitez family defending Corsair space. All those factions are related to Corsairs but their main goal is very different than each others but their goals to monitor a specific sector of the Corsairs allows them to achieve that officiality.

And the same goes with the Outcasts. You got the 101st Outcasts Guards which by their name tells you they defend the Outcasts, and the RoS handles the war with the Corsairs, and I have yet to fully understand the SoB and BLS, but a random guess is that the BLS handles smuggling and what not, while SoB helps the RoS in the war with the Corsairs.

BLS has been absorbed into SOB, actually. SOB started out as (guess what) a splinter faction, a militarized rebellion against the political and economic practices of the BLS, which was gaining an increasingly monopolistic control over the Cardamine market. They've since absorbed the BLS, which fell apart under pressure.

I could imagine a Corsair faction who's sole purpose was to interdict the Outcast cardamine trade, wherever they can find anyone hauling it. There's always room for some sufficiently unique/specialized group, even when a particular NPC faction already has three player factions. It's just that most player factions proposed for such NPC factions aren't really unique at all.

If its a more Splinker-like faction. Or a one thats a little more orgional then theres ]M[ currently getting up and running.
Unnoficial factions post
They are loosly affiliated with Liberty Rogues at the moment, but use Pirate ID's.
They fly only the Generic Pirate Line and generaly take loot rather than cash, that they then haul off in thier Pirate Transports that hang with the group.
They use a pack mentality, so they never fly alone. Or ar not far from the group when "working" at least.
They fly raids to remote-ish house stations rather that hunt traders.

This more like what people are looking for here?

They havent gone for Official faction status yet as it pays to test the water first, in regards to acceptace and such.
