what makes the videos so good is not so much the game effect - but the very professional way they are recorded and modified.
the choreography of the videos is similar to the ne BSG series, with quick zooms in and out - slow camera movements changing with well done cuts.
the effects are good... indeed - but the dogfights are performed extra slowly. - the ships appear to move sluggishly while the weapons are very fast - a good effect that supports the idea of mass in a zero G enviroment, but its very different from disco.
one good thing there is that fights are more like old dogfight simulations... "when you get behind someone, you re in a clear advantage" - while in disco - being "behind" someone isn t really such a big deal - most damage is done heads on ( for the average player ).
if we had someone with such skills making a video of disco - we d get at LEAST the same amazing quality. - disco hasn t got the bloom and motion blur effect by default - but it has .... well..... about 200 more players on a real multiplayer server + some very unique models / ships and a very good balance ( considering we got like 300 more ships than the original )
however - such a video shows how much microsoft could / should have done - especially the performance and multiplayer ability of the program. - i am SURE that such quality is possible on medium computers even with 200 players - if microsoft had cared to tweak the program.
The cinematography of the Itano Circus video is stunning. The added bloom effects and glow made it look amazing. However I disagree with Jinx. The battle scenes where hard and fast, great to watch and not boring in my opinion.
The way the movie was layed out was very professional, cross cutting and NPC voices added to the atmosphere, making the result look very professional indeed. I think that guy is a professional actually.
yes - i didn t refer too much to the massive battlescene when i meant the slow ships etc. - but rather to the scene in tau-31 ( or so ) - where the sabre drops mines ( the official trailer somewhat ).
the sabre moves quite slowly in that video - slow enough to create a very good feeling of it being a spaceship - but not very fast in terms of reacting realisticly based on the stats when it comes to dodging.
the mass battlescene is different - the patriot is flying fast - however it is hardly really aimed at - and is only fighting wolfhounds - or so it seems... and those wolfhounds are only NPCs - so he can stick to their rear.
what is really good though is how the battleships fire. - in disco - those ships concentrate all fire at one point - making the broadsides look more like a cone... in this video, the shots "spread" out and it looks much more like they are firing real broadsides .
what adds to the scene to look busy is that the trail effect stays a lot longer ( much like homeworld ) . - i find an overuse of overbrightness though. - when some missiles explode, they turn the whole screen white. - while that is very nice for a few effects... its a bit too much when it pops up all the time.
but anyway - its amazing to see how well the whole scene works. - it does look like an amazing battle and such a scene is still better than pretty much every space simulation of today even. ( not like there are many out there ) - and even EVE doesn t look that good ( in terms of - so intense ... come to that - what i know of EVE... huge fights look quite static anyway )
' Wrote:just wondering...could 4.85 reach that kind of graphic and sense of battlefield?
It would give NPC's more of meaning in the mod, my vote would be for it. Plus would be neat to do something like that when there is nothing to do when the server only has 40 people on at those late/early times.
