Actually, the game designers did intend to have Trains bending and weaving, with the cargo section acting like a piece of string trailing behind the cockpit and engine section.
This was going to be the main reason why the train would be superior to Transport-type vessels which are rigid. Increased cargo space on a rigid vessel (think Super Super Transport) would increase the inertia and momentum of the vessel at a given speed, making the vessel less manoeuvrable.
A small vehicle with a train of cargo pods behind it would be more manouvreable, as the cockpit section could go where it wanted with little mass and inertia, and the cargo would follow behind. This would have meant that the train-design could have carried more cargo than the transport, whilst still having acceptable manoeuvrability.
Sadly, this was never implemented.
However, the physics behind all this does seem to prove that Train-type vessels ought to be able to carry more cargo than rigid vessels.
Unfortunately, if you consider the way in which a sectioned train would move through space, the "tail" would get all over the place due to the lack of friction, and would be constantly bouncing off things like trade lane rings, stations and planets...perhaps it's better that it is a rigid construction...
Well, you can lock the moving parts when needed, also each section can have it's own little engines, and such... much like a real train. It should be perfect for tradelanes... you wouldn't want to wander in New berlin asteroid fields with it thou.

25000.
You're kidding me right?
Anyone who can get their resident basement-dwelling nerd out of their next-door-neighbor's basement to write you a half-decent RP will be flying one of those. You know what THAT means:
BH SPAM BH SPAM BH SPAM!
Not to mention it would be a pain to fly. Besides, what if you clip a planet?
EDIT: Also, the current train cargo capacities are:
Train: 3000
Large Train: 4500
Advanced Train: 5000
