Hour 1: Oh... so this is used like that
Hour 2: Hmm, this is good.
Hour 3-10: Hell, that is amazing game
Hour 11: Wait, I have done that 150 times before
Hour 12: Heck, why are the missions all the same
Hour 13: Boring. Boring. BORING!
Hour 14-15: Time to toss it into a trash.
After 100 days, you can start all over again, and have 10 hours of good fun.
EDIT: Well, overall, it is a good game, but... they should have used a little more imagination, than making all the missions like that :
1. Get a car.
2. Ride to place X.
3. Kill guy Y.
4. Ride back.
And this mission copy-paste 500 times, just changing the X and Y.
But I like the rest, outside of the missions.
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.
' Wrote:Guess what? I have it for PC and it rocks. I very much enjoy playing it. Call me a noob, an idiot, whatever -- I don't care. I never take the views of people who think four-word opinions and saying "Nuff said" makes them smarter seriously.
My main reason for hating it for PC is the fact that you need a MONSTER of a machine to play it. Rockstar seriously screwed the coding on this, because there's no way that this game should run so sluggish on my PC. And before someone says it's because of my PC... I can run Crysis nearly perfectly without a hiccup. GTA4 should not, in NO WAY, be more graphical intensive then Crysis, seeing as how GTA4 is on the consoles, and the consoles can't handle Crysis.
Here, I'll post some opinions from users from another forum I frequent. They have serious gripes about this game, and how Rockstar worked with Microsoft and used that Games for Windows Live garbage.
Quote:I will start this off by saying that this game performed very poorly on my machine,*specs at bottom* as well as almost everyone else's. I am however one of the fortunate ones who is able to run it.
As far as gameplay at the moment I would give this game a less than satisfactory review. Apparently from what R* says this game was meant for next-gen gaming. I however didn't hear anything about this before the release. I am over the min specs but not by a whole lot and I must have all of my settings on the lowest possible to play any multi-player modes without getting kicked from any server for my system running too slow. The single player mode however must be what the min specs are for as that runs pretty smooth while still only being able to use min settings.
Multi-player gameplay while being horrible at the moment does have a bit of promise. I have played around 8 or 9 of the 15 different modes and I can say that I have enjoyed almost all of them.
My suggestion:
Single Player:
you should be good at around 3Ghz dual core CPU with 3-4GB Ram and at least a good 512MB GPU(remember SLI is not currently supported but crossfire is)
Multi player:
From all the research I have done via the web and asking people that I play with i have found that a quad core is pretty much necessary as this game is very CPU intensive. While I can't tell you from experience from what I've seen and heard you need a min of a Phenom9850 OC'd with about a NVidia 9800 to even get this to be playable in online mode without getting kicked. If you are one of the fortunate people out there with an i7 965 and crossfire with GTX 280's then by all means buy the game and have fun killing all the people who aren't moving.
Quote: Fatal error RMN20
Apparantly some people are experiencing this error when the game launches. I am one of these people. Ive read on the gta/steam forums that one should make sure compatibility mode is turned off, which you can check by right clicking the icon and looking in properties. That did not fix the problem for me.
I am running vista ultimate 64 with service pack 1. Droc is running the game with the same operating system as mine, so im really confuesed as to what the issue could be.
Supposedly there is supposed to be a patch coming out that will fix this.
If you experience this problem while running xp i read that service pack 3 should take care of it.
If anyone has any input, please post.
This error has apparently been patched. But you'd think Rockstar would've nailed this one before release, because it pissed off a LOT of people. Hell, I heard Steam was actually offering REFUNDS for those who pruchased GTA4 through them.
Quote:But does anyone else feel that GFWL is the biggest piece of crap? I mean, could it possibly be any more confusing and crappy?
I can start the GFWL client outside of game. Can I add some friends with it? Nope. You gotta be in game to do that.
Allright, I'll start the game. Lemme try and find my friend. I sort of know what his name is. Can I search for him? Nope. You gotta know what his name is exactly. Can I look at his profile to verify that it's him before I send a friend request? Nope. You gotta blindly send it and hope it's the right guy.
Hey, I'd like to change my gamertag avatar. Can I do that? Sure! But all 10 gadzillion people on xbox/GFW live have a nice assortment of TEN cartoony ones to pick from, each one more cartoon-y and fruity than the last. Oh, wait, I CAN change it to something else! But you have to buy a "pack" of gamertag picks. What the hell! I'll live with a gamertag picture of teddy bears and unicorns dancing under a friggin rainbow before I pay one goddamn cent for a avatar picture! This just makes me desperately want to find a way to hack this so I can upload a picture of my gnarly, ugly, peen in my gamertag and set off alarms and flashing lights at the microsoft mothership.
Between my gamertag, my xbox/gamesforwindows live ID, my steam ID, my rockstar social club ID (linked to my GFW live ID), FATAL ERROR crashes, and most importantly, no iO servers or easy way to find my iO friends, I'm about ready to scream.
All this for a game that gives me 22.3FPS on a one year old computer. Crap.
EDIT: FORGOT MY BIGGEST GRIPE
Why, why, why, does it give me the option to remap a bunch of controls, but I cannot map "move forward" to right mouse button? I know I'm a mutant for wanting to do that, but I bought this game, lemme map the controls the way I want to!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell, I'm sure GTA4 will be great to play once Rockstar has got more patches out, and when I upgrade to a Quad Core computer. But the fact that I've still gotta use Games for Windows Live in conjuction with Rockstar Social Club ID.
This has got to be one of the worst console-to-PC ports done.
Also, Etaphreven, what system specs you have? What settings you run the game on? How much fps do you get playing online? What's your fps for single player??
Below is a rant on the absolute first impressions about GTA IV
Once upon a time (Well, 2 days ago actually) There was a naiive bastard who thought he'd play his own Santa and BUY a game for a change and be a nice, law-abiding sucker.
So I visit Media-markt, pinch the plastic box from the shelf and hurry to the sachier before some secrity guard gets too jumpy about the fact, that I lack a basket.
I pay an... elevated price and go home.
Ok, let's get started... It's obvious, that 2 DVDs worth of data wil take time to get installed, but whatever - there was a movie on the telly so I just waited it out.
Yay! It's installed. Knowing I needed no cracks/keygens this time, I just launched the .exe.
PHAIL
Rockstar games social club must be running for you to run the game ^^ DL it nau!
ok... whatever...
But what if I don't WANT to play it online? What if I suck at the game so friggin' bad that showing my game results to anyone would be just humiliating myself?
NAWH! R3g NAU! We can has ur E-mail and spyz0 on ur comp - when we can has know everything abt u - u can has play -MEBBE-
Ok, passed the idiotic registration... And then tried to play AGAIN
NAWH! U has 4got abt Windows LIVE update! We has deal with Evil Bill and we'sa rule da wurld!11!!1 Big deal - only 30megs dl - DL it nau! or no play! (lawl(h))

My first 20 minutes of 'gaming" gave me the worst possibl impression.
GTA IV is one of the games I have no guilt about playing with a pirated copy.
Kudos to the unsung heroes of the quality games made for other purposes, not just money.
And down with Rockstar, who should die a very painful death for conning all PC users with their run about 2 hour work on converting the game for the PC platform.
May your children walk in reverse, Rockstar.
I wish you have 100 daughters, so you work all your life for tampons, Rockstar.
I wish your mother would look for you with a Geiger counter, Rockstar.
Sweet nightmares, Rockstar.
Good night.
<span style="font-familyalatino Linotype">
<span style="color:#000000">All morons hate it when you call them a moron.
Thing is, I did get it legally for a change - As a token of my gratitude to Rockstar for all the previous GTA releases.
It proved to be a mistake I will not repeat.
See, ok, I can understand the overwhelming marketing efforts to "help" those corporate people know stuff etc...
What i don't understand is why despite having a quad-core processor and an Nvidia 8600 card running - the game's lagging beyond playability even on lowest detail/resolution settings.
I mean... What PC is capable of running the game on MEDIUM detail then? That codebreaker supercomputer down at Fort Meade?
The game itself is probably fun, didn't get too far in it to determine how much fun, but despite all the eyecandy graphics - a quantum leap compared to SA, the storyline and such - They all aren't worth squat when a simple and not overly fast drive is a slideshow, coupled by all the "necessary" internet-related obligations.
GTAIV was a good game, for the most part, I did enjoy the "Realism" of the gameplay physics and what-not, It was a bit of a disappointment compared to GTA: San Andreas which featured a fair selection of outfits and customization options that it would have been nice to have in GTAIV. Storyline was decent.
Reproduction of New York was very nicely done even the cops look like NY cops..Oh I also like that people don't necessarily die when you shoot them and they fall on the ground, and on a final note, random hospital rampages are...well..quite morbidly entertaining...I'm still waiting for a GTA where you can play as different characters, like a male or a female or a black guy or a white guy, something like that *shrug*
Overall, GTAIV was a good game, but it could have been much better.
