Ok, server restarts, bing- ships camped all over are fighting to get to thier pre-determined wreck scattered accross sirius! Iron hamers! Blue Blazes! Solaris! Gaurdian! Jade me Seymore!
I got to be the first kid on my block to collect them all!
This seems, to me anyways, a problem. Now I like going through hell to get a Nommie cell, it's a trophy for me. I won't dare camp for it, Nor camp for a gun. Seems like I am odd. Have died more times than achived it.
Of course what fuels this need to get all these capitalized weapons?
A need for "rares"?
Is it the money sign in everyones eyes?
The "uberness"? - (though I have found guns with much better stats!)
Frankly it pisses me off when I want to purchase a code weapon from a marked dealer who says "15 mill buddy," when all they did was camp out there and get said codenamed. Or the non-dealer who tries to rip off the new guy for an extreme amount.
So what can we do here?
I would love to see someone flood the market with cheap codes! - tis my answer, kinda hard to achive when someone is ALWAYS there before you. But even if there we're better weapon dealers not in it to make an EXTREME-TACO profit. These guns seem to have a special mystery about them causing them to be wanted more. I, for one, used to sell them in gamma CHEAP, hell, sometimes just give them away to new guys!
But now, I am wondering
will this magical land of CODES still exist in the comming changes?
and- If I shoot the wrecks, even though I have gotten them before, will they disappear for eveyone else too for the day? ---Mwahahahaha!
Hate to rant, just seen this stuff too much lately. Fire away peeps~
Aha, another CODE farming banter! I share your anger at this rather, annoying practice. I would argue that these guys have it easy, since they just log in quick sharpish, shoot the wreck and get somewhere safe. But like you said, they gotta fight each other for the prize and they can't exactly F1 out of combat.
I personally don't like this practice, the weapons are pure PvP. There is little to no RP behind the weapons origin's, and this is a roleplay server. I got rid of my Codename weapons when I realized this, not to mention made PvP a little more invigorating.
I got no quarrel with people RP'ing the origins of the weapons, but having a full armament of them? If they are 'prototypes' or 'rarely' built weapons, why have a full mount of them?
Weapon farming I don't like, but then again, the weapons got to come from somewhere, oh and who decides the prices of these things!??! I've seen widely between 3-15 million for a single one! That's just extortion people.
I would like to point out that some Arms Dealer's don't actually camp wrecks, and buy them off of traders and your so called "new players" for good amounts, helping the economy get a boost and providing new jobs at the same time.
Please, enough with this incessant whining. If you dislike the guy who spawned outta nowhere, make sure you have a bigger ship and blast him or summat.
Just make faction class 10s, remove codes and be done with it...(I, also, dislike codes' "proliferation", even if I do have full loadouts on my bombers...(tho, to be honest, I can't hit with them, anyway))

Fair point on the purchasing of codes from indies, and I like that. But blowing up campers? I'm sure you'd get reports just for that...
Codes aren't that great, rank 9 faction weapons are fine, energy consumption is important, so even using rank 8 weapons isn't that big of a gimp, with refire and projectile speed thrown in, the gap isn't huge between them.
I agree, it is frustrating. I started collecting them and selling for $3,000,000 a piece to try and bring prices down but now I can't seem to get a code to save my life. I've literally been first on the server, spawn on top of a wreck and still come up empty handed.
This makes me wonder if some new code was introduced that doesn't allow me to harvest code guns anymore, but that's the conspiracy theorist part of my personality that distrusts figures of authority. Since there does seem to be a pattern though, my logical side suggests and wonders if there is a limit to how many code guns an individual character may harvest before code wreck become disabled to it.
Anyhoo, back on topic. What was the topic again? Oh yes, greed associated with code name guns and what has turned into big business because of it.
I must disagree on one point; it's not just camping a wreck to get the code gun, it's knowing which wreck and its location. I've been exploring Sirius in single player and have found locations for 13 and am still looking for the other 8. I have, interestingly enough, found multiple locations for a few of them: Diamondback (2 locations so far), Jade (3 locations so far), and Onyx (2 locations so far). I have gotten an idea on how valuable it can be to KNOW where to look.
I haven't seen any dealers asking $15 mil for a weapon yet, but if I did I would most likely tell him that I'll go get it myself (unless it's one of the 8 I don't yet have). As for what others might do, just remember that there is more than one dealer out there and you might find a better price elsewhere. Have patience and wait for the next opportunity to purchase. You don't really need the gun RIGHT now and will be better off waiting for a more reasonable dealer.
As for regulating the harvesting and sale of code guns, I'm not so sure.
Would we license those able to harvest and/or sell?
On one hand; it might limit the feeding frenzy that occurs at each server reset.
On the other hand; it would also limit, or eliminate, an aspect of the game for those not licensed.
Would we, instead, limit how many one might harvest?
On one hand; this would open the frenzy up to new players.
On the other hand; current dealers would just keep creating new character accounts to continue harvesting guns.
EDIT: I will also add that Codies are supposed to be rare and the market seems to be too flooded lately. Too many Armorers and Dealers can also have an adverse effect on the situation.
