Hahahahahaha! I have ur admirals in my hold and I am killing them! What u do now? PATHETIC.
As to the issue brought up in the OP about the distinction between the LPI and the LN, it's a good observation and one which I've often cited for the underlying foundation of police factions and the like not succeeding. Chiefly in that they're redundant. Some of the upcoming ID changes are resolving some of those troubles, with police factions such as the LPI being the only ones whom can scan for contraband whilst the Militaries are the only ones with access to the heavy kit. Adding a trace of distinction to the two.
As to storylines, well, there's an issue that saddles up alongside those skylined by Xoria, in that it's troublesome to orchestrate events containing any permanence between NPC factions when they're played out by their corresponding "official" player factions, as the result might alter gameplay of non-faction orientated players who want nothing to do with it.
In which case, any official change to the gamescape generally takes place when Igiss shakes the map and moves the pieces around. Until which time we all dance our same dance time and again. The Xenos continue to pew pew pew, the Navy continues to stomp on gunboats and years pass without much changing.
Micro events between factions are epic fun, but as of late really haven't comprised of much more than an exchange of fire. With exception to events such as the LN/BAF recently having a ball playing out an expansion upon the treaty of their respective borderworlds. Nothing new, nothing that flies in the face of what's considered good to go for anyone faction or not, but epic none the less.
For better or for worse, the greater scape of Discovery is locked into the same step on the daily. I can expect my day to day impact to be extremely minimal and be assured that, should I burn Liberty to the ground, when I undock tomorrow my Xeno will be facing the same trials that he did today.
A good system for maintaining a balance of fun without requiring new-joins to research hours of back history to see whats what, but a system of adopting the faces of corresponding NPC factions does leave a certain, ah, desire for fluidity in the system.
Character Count:
David Chambers: Laid off school teacher who ended up on the wrong side of the economic line in Liberty.
Simon Young: Barely able pilot who managed to sneak through obstacles into a cockpit via luck.
Timothy Rhyme: Sweater wearing transport pilot just living out the day to day amidst crazed eccentrics.
On WoW I roleplay as an Undead Paladin(Ex-Pally Technically due to Undead) whom started worshipping the Old Gods and is super powerful.
And that Super Powerful part comes from the fact that he is - Ive beaten people ten levels above me and nobody within 3 levels of me can even touch me.

I didn't ask how you powergame, I asked what difference you could really abuse if you had a character with some sort of superhuman ability. For example, if your character has some kind of telekinesis ability, you could... what? Type "i iz killing u with my mind"? In which case the other guy would either play along, or ignore it.
I just don't really see the point in worrying about the stuff.

No, you cant abuse it. None has the right to limit other people's roleplay with his own.
ill give you an example.
And indie nomad comes to delta, i just happen to be there in a rogue gunboat.
Many players are present...mostly cruisers and battleships.
The Nomad guy tries to take psychic control of someone, but everyone roleplays: "hahah, you cant fool me"
I on the other hand, role play serious psychological instability and fall under his influence. Start shooting BH BC's with my gunboat (suicide).
So it strictly depends on others if your abilities will have effect. And i must say i had loads of fun back then.
"Everyone wants to be super ninja cyborg mutant telepathic alien pirate assassins, nobody wants to be Liberty Naval patrol gamma-6 or Synth Foods Convoy Alpha-1"
Funny. I always wanted to do that. The Alpha-1 thing. But that's usually possible only on my independent characters because when I join a faction I usually tend to go up in ranks pretty fast. The special powers usually being the survival skill alone.

You tell me... I'm a bloody BAF Admiral. I had to create a Privateer to get some lower ranking BAF (fortunately they can't get promoted) and even then BAF pilots (including higher officers) sometimes expect me to issue orders. I need to tell them specifically they're in command.
Now RHA wants to recruit my Hessian who is happy to stay as a lowly pilot. I like more to play the ordinary man.
There are a few hundred of us.
There are a few thousand of NPCs, millions on the planets.
We CAN be the wierd superhumans simply because we are the minority.
You could say that there aren't hundreds of superhumans etc on Earth, I say technology. Freelancer is far far beyond our technological level and really, if we had as much freedom in real life as we do in Freelancer (IE, not being able to be found wherever you go, whatever you do) then we probably would have superhumans etc.
Basically, we are a minority in the FL universe. A universe full of advanced technology and alien substances. I could graft a gun to my arm right now, why couldn't they do the same in the FL universe?
Hmm. I've noticed mention of Nomad mind control or telepathic influence, all I'll say is that it's a two-way street meaning it's up to the participant(s) either to play along with it by agreeing to be temporary influenced in one way or another, or roleplay way out of it. In other words it's voluntary roleplay.
As for the topic subject as a whole, well there is no secret that I put my time and effort into Nomads rather than any human faction, the reason is quite simple: it offered more or less empty playground to experiment around with various ideas and concepts, both of technical and roleplay realms. A creative channel I would otherwise not find in any other faction presented in Freelancer lore.
well yea linkus, we could all play superhuman beings, but personally i prefer to be an average joe, like some (maybe even most) others here.
It can be fun to play a superhero/villain, but that fun can't last forever, at least not for me.
Take tv-series for instance, every time the good guys beat the villain, they put in a new, more powerfull villain into the plot just to keep the series going. And because of this "stretching", allot of those series become dull and boring. For me, the same applies for RP, you would just keep stretching your RP and eventually you won't have anymore fun with it. (well, except maybe Monstar, he lost a few screws here and there:lol:)
