Yes to both Igiss. Definitely the ship rep needed.
And Marauder, thats exactly why I think every faction should have some kind of ship restriction. Definitely on the house factions. RM uses only Rheinland caps. And I think fighters too.
SF on the other hand uses barely any Bretonia ships at all, which is completely against their RP. Their leader is using the Colonial Viper and Battlestar for god's sake..
My first ships were Container Trans, then a Sabre for Wraith, Zoner Jugg for AW, and Eagle for Kiretsu. All following the ship lines those factions used. (Bundschuh - Dagger-Stiletto-Sabre line, GC - Hawk-Falcon-Eagle line)
Then the RH cruiser, since we can't restrict cruisers as Zoners have none.. *nudges Igiss.*
The Wraiths are getting Rheinland ships as any capships they would get would be stolen or refitted RH caps..
Every other faction needs to do something similar to that. Put some kind of restriction.
Unless someone is willing to be flamed for shooting his own guys (sso| shooting BHG) they won't be able to get the ship. Heck, we could make it tag-required.
Yes on the rep requirements! If possible, I'd be for affiliation required which isn't so hard to get now just needs a little thinking (or money, or both... :) ).
Shields, yes too, why not.
A little bug: Orange Base in Connecticut still shows 'Green Base, Connecticut System' when you dock, possibly other bases too...
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor
@Igiss: a definate yes to rep requirements for ships, weapons and equipment.
Yes the shields should be balanced, however, if the infernos are based off pulse weapons no-one will ever use a positron shield because pulse weapons do more damage to them.
Pulse weapons are weakest against graviton shields.
@QV: it would mean that being in a faction has advantages to being a freelancer.
Besides which the Battlestars are technically a civilian ship because no faction has any claim to them. So freelancers can fly a Bstar or a Bstar adv. but no other capships.
You don't see the required rep for a certain ship. You set the rep requirement, then it applies the rep of faction who owns the base its sold on. For example. A Bstar on Manhatten would require high Liberty Police rep, while one on Gran Canaria would need a high Zoner rep.
Rep for ship buying...
When i buy a ship i always think "Thanks god that this has no rep limit..." But if we see it from a more RPish point of view, reps for getting a ship is required.
Still, It will not stop a player from getting any ship (s)he wants... It will only make it harder.
And yes, I've seen many players that do not respect the RP rules of his faction. There are several people from many factions (Except RM and AW) that have ships that do not belong to the faction they are in.
The bloody viper seem to be the favourite ship nowadays.... Its a nice looking ship and I would like to have one too as a non AW char. But I haven't bought one because of the Invincibility bug...
