Do you think they're useless?

When do you really get the time to fire them, when your being shot at?

I think they're very useless, Really, only AI can fire backward and turn at the same time.

If I'm attempting to disengage from a bunch of annoying 'rookies' - aka NPC's, then I may hit V and shoot back at them occassionally.

Other than that, I just pick something that looks pretty for my fighter / bomber and shoot it off every so often for the colored lights.

Now, on a gunship / gunboat, backwards facing turrets can be handy. I've an Orca set up with a Cerberus in the rear turret so when I'm making runs in on cap ships and heading out, I can use that as an additional stinger.

Useless for real applications, yes.

Do I still use them to play fire and look at the multitude of pretty purple light being fired off behind me? Yes.

Depends on the ship: Eagles can fire the "rear" turret forwards in a sharp turn, so can some others. Something like the Titan can't. However, mount 2 Tizzie turrets on the back of a Praet, and you have some pretty nifty shieldbusting capability...depends, really.

Mount it anyway. That turret might just soak up a SN for you someday (it's saved my Wrath more than once!)

Capships dont count, because you can ussualy take damage long enough to fire backwards and not worry about it but in fighters someone can just supernova you in the face

Rear fire chain guns can pop those NPC missiles pertty good, and as far as firing them during a real fight?= worthless, but as Virus wisely said "That turret might just soak up a SN for you someday" -it wurked fer me!

1) Turrets are just another thing to soak up a stray supernova. Mount them, use them, love them.
2) Turrets can shoot out lanes behind you. Enjoy the perk.
3) It's either have them facing backwards or not have them at all, if you really hate them, don't mount them. Otherwise refer to point 1/2.

they're not entirely useless, some noob in a bomber was running away from us, not manuvering at all, trying to use rear view to shoot at us with his rear turrets. He made such a lovely little target, didnt even dodge!

So yea, rear firing turrets - good for killing noobs.
