Look, some people do things like this, Yoda, Doc Holiday and Cylons, but really, this is freelancer, not Star Trek or Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica, or Afro Samurai for that matter. No offense to the people who are doing it, but really, how bout coming up with a good character that might actually be around in Freelancers. I love Doc Holiday, he's a great guy and a great member of the community, but quite frankly Klingon's don't exist in Freelancer.
It's my personal humble opinion that anything more than the nomads is too many aliens. And we already have more than the nomads (though all but one of those are unofficial).
What's wrong with humans? Humans are great, humans are interesting, humans are more varied in style and personality than just about any alien race ever conceived.
Oops, guess i might have touched a live wire there, sorry. I was definitely not being serious about the vulcan part and tend to agree with you zelot, we shouldn't have many imports, Freelancer is it's own universe, although I think of all the imports CR might be the most in RP, I mean they were wandering the galazy and whatnot, so it does make more sense to me than some of the other imports.
About Nomads though, I have not once seen a nomad player, and I'm in The Order. I have seen one phantom a couple of times and heard the wilde over com once. I really wouldn't mind seeing them around more. I've seen or heard more from harvesters than I have all these other alien factions put together.
The imports we DO have are 95% freelancer (read their stories instead of whining)
I never had a problem with Yoda. Sure, i don't like Starwars in Freelancer but he made it look like
Jedi are in fact a branch of Zoners, which i think is a cool idea and very well implemented.
If there is any person who knows all jumpholes in the game its Yoda, and he is very helpful
in setting up noobs.
Claiming that the =CR= are battlestar galactica is a bit low. Read their story for once and you'll see that they put a lot of effort to be integrated, and they've chosen a very original path to do it.
Harvesters are an ancient race, made by the Dom Kavash an were there before the nomads.
Now they are weakened by the lack of the Alpha Code and can't take over Sirius. (one of those goals never meant to be achieved)
Phantoms are simply a breed of supersoldiers..... not a galactic civilization.
So no, i don't see a problem with new races or imports as long as the people doing it are prepared to combine their history with the original freelancer's. Implementing takes a lot of work and id be ashamed to stop someone in being creative. It might give us more topics to talk about in-game.
Add the Mandalorians to that list as a technically imported faction who have really found their place here. It's an import yes, but I'm proud to be a member.
A great little merc faction, with some awesome members.
Not all imports are bad, and I have a lot of patience for the CR as I know the rest of the RoS do...
MY only concern about the original idea put up here was the massive amount of work involved in creating a whole new race of aliens. I mean, sure, it can be done, but second... does Igiss have plans for this in the ongoing plotline of discovery and second do the community want it. Lastly, do our dev team really want all the extra work. Having just added a new house, meaning ships, weapon projectiles, balance, infocards, rumours... the list goes on, would they really be up for creating a new mysterious race of aliens?
is that instead of new aliens per say, the Mad Scientist guy could have created a new species.....i'm going to RP him as having made the Monkeys on Primus...so it's possible that he could have created something else as well.
