On another FL server, had a guy in NY, shot down by npcs, not having any money left and such.
Gave him two mil.
I felt good.

Two days after the guy was riding a camara, i was glad.

Four days after he was hauling food in a large transport.

A week later i saw him in an adv train.

Two hours ago, i was killed by his BHG Bs.

Moral of the story: There's more to it than just flinging money at them.

Yeah, Dusty's right.

When I help people, I help them earn their way. I'll point them to good trade routes, buy them a mid-range freighter or fighter (like a Dromedary or Stiletto), and escort them for a trip or two if I'm on a character that allows. As an added side bonus, it saves me money.

Try doing that instead, it might work out better.

Or it could be funding the four Havoc MkII bombers that'll add the above-mentioned destroyer to the Jersey Debris Field.

the trader you saved can be the outcast dreadnought that stirs up the entire navy another day...

well - yes, thats cause its a RP server. - when a player is on his trader... he is a trader, playing the role of a trader, being the victim, needing protection. - when he is on his outcast dreadnought he is playing the outcast captain. - he will try to cause fear in any lawful, he will put his powerful ship to a purpose ( which isn t easy these times without others starting ooc complaints )

i mean, what do we expect? - that he keeps playing the demure victim in his outcast dreadnought? - that he is friendly to those that helped him as a trader? - that would be .... lets see.... ooRP for his outcast much.

a good roleplayer takes up the role he is supposed to play in every situation - being flexible to react appropriately ( based on the role he plays, not on the RL mood he is in ) to any situation.

a BAD roleplayer is one that has just been shot down by a BHG in his pirate, then relogs to his Navy and starts a rant about BHGs hanging around navy bases for example - that would be projecting overlapping roles.

giving out money to a trader is fine. - if that money is used to kick my own butt ( but on another character that is in role to kick my butt ) - things are right. we do have rules preventing the very extreme cases of such behaviour - like the rules that there must be no revenge killings ( traders switching to their combat chars ) - but when we take roleplay seriously, we can only hope that each character acts according to the role he is supposed to play, no matter what happened before on another char.

it is nice that you helped a new char - but if you want to avoid such a thing, you d have to apply ooc measures. - like "i give you 2 million credits and you won t attack me in a hostile char bigger than me ever" - which would be a bit strange to say the least.

if you don t apply such a condition, you must not complain. - if you think their roleplay was lacking, you need to teach them a more complex roleplay lesson than just to give them money.

i think in the recent days, i have given a one or two people a few bucks, too. - i try to ask them about their intentions and why they need the money, what they intent to do with it and why they failed to raise the money themselves..... most of them fail to explain that, cause begging doesn t involve switching your brain on. - so they don t get any money. - of course they can also tell you a story about why they need it and totally use it for something else ( like buying a BHG battleship and blow you to pieces ) - but the only way to prevent that is to watch their every step and when you see them put your money to such an ill use, you can ... well, you can be very unhappy.
